¿Es la inteligencia artificial, inteligencia en sí misma? / Is artificial intelligence, intelligence in itself?

La aparición de la llamada inteligencia artificial ha traído consigo un debate, sobre sus usos e implicaciones, para unos el nuevo salto de la humanidad, para otros la nueva caja de pandora.

Ahora bien, más allá del apoyo o los detractores, creo que debemos reflexionar sobre si es o no inteligencia en sí misma, recordando que la inteligencia se refiere a la capacidad mental de comprender, razonar, aprender, planificar, resolver problemas, percibir emociones y adaptarse al entorno. Característica exclusiva de nosotros, los humanos, mientras que la llamada inteligencia artificial es la simulación de procesos de inteligencia humana por parte de máquinas, especialmente sistemas informáticos.

El hecho que los sistemas de inteligencia artificial carezcan de aspectos de la inteligencia humana, como la conciencia, el autoconocimiento, el pensamiento crítico y la capacidad de experimentar emociones, ya condiciona el considerarlos como inteligencia, ubicándolas en un plano más de herramientas que pueden realizar tareas típicamente asociadas con la inteligencia.

Desde esta perspectiva coincido en parte con Noam Chomsky e Ian Roberts

Estas aplicaciones no son realmente “inteligentes”, debido a que carecen de capacidad crítica. Si bien, pueden describir y predecir “lo que es”, “lo que fue” y lo que será”, no son capaces de explicar “lo que no es” y “lo que no podría ser”.

Reflexionar implica descubrir nuevas vías de comprensión, crear nuevas posturas y aceptar que debemos actualizar nuestras perspectivas, más aún cuando hay proyectos que nos muestran que estas herramientas evolucionan y mejoran sus capacidades de forma independiente, porque es innegable que la inteligencia artificial se consolida como una aliada de grandes beneficios para explotar nuestras habilidades humanas.

Is artificial intelligence, intelligence in itself?

The emergence of the so-called artificial intelligence has brought with it a debate on its uses and implications, for some the new leap of humanity, for others the new pandora's box.

Now, beyond the support or detractors, I think we should reflect on whether or not it is intelligence in itself, remembering that intelligence refers to the mental capacity to understand, reason, learn, plan, solve problems, perceive emotions and adapt to the environment. A characteristic unique to us humans, while so-called artificial intelligence is the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems.

The fact that artificial intelligence systems lack aspects of human intelligence, such as consciousness, self-awareness, critical thinking and the ability to experience emotions, already conditions the consideration of them as intelligence, placing them on a plane of tools that can perform tasks typically associated with intelligence.

From this perspective I agree in part with Noam Chomsky and Ian Roberts.

These applications are not really "intelligent" because they lack critical capability. While they can describe and predict "what is", "what was" and "what will be", they are not able to explain "what is not" and "what could not be".

Reflecting implies discovering new ways of understanding, creating new positions and accepting that we must update our perspectives, even more so when there are projects that show us that these tools evolve and improve their capabilities independently, because it is undeniable that artificial intelligence is consolidating as an ally of great benefits to exploit our human abilities.
