2023 Met Gala Red Carpet [ENG/ESP]
May is here. A heat wave hits the north of South America, in Venezuela there was no minimum wage increase and the world keeps turning, but the first Monday of May also passed and the most prestigious fashion event in the United States took place, the most important and in which everyone wants to be, but few are the chosen ones. The Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, is an exclusive event, an annual exhibition of fashion and haute couture.
The super editor of Vogue USA, Anna Wintour is the host of the Met Gala and each year an allegorical theme is chosen to pay tribute to. In this annual exhibition can be attended in two ways or you are invited (and for that you must be either very famous or very close friend of Anna, imposing fashion among other aspects) or simply pay a hefty amount to attend with the cream of entertainment. This year, the chosen theme was Karl Lagerfeld, the controversial German designer. Fat-phobic, racist, misogynist, iconic and synonymous of elegance, but also of superficiality and excess, Karl Lagerfeld, who died in 2019 and wanted to inherit all his fortune to his cat Choupette, is a global fashion figure, known mostly for his legacy and work at Chanel, his fledgling career as a photographer and for his unfortunate comments. En esta exhibición anual se puede asistir de dos formas o te invitan (y para eso debes ser o muy famoso o muy amigo de Anna, imponer moda entre otros aspectos) o simplemente pagas una cuantiosa cantidad para asistir junto a la crema y nata del entretenimiento. Este año, el tema elegido fue Karl Lagerfeld, el polémico diseñador alemán. Gordofobico, racista, misógino, icónico y sinónimo de la elegancia, pero también de la superficialidad y los excesos, Karl Lagerfeld quien murió en 2019 y quiso heredar toda su fortuna a su gata Choupette, es un personaje mundial de la moda, conocido mayormente por su legado y trabajo en la firma Chanel, su insipiente carrera como fotógrafo y por sus infortunados comentarios. This year, as always several looks were virilized, some for the wrong reasons and others because they were brilliant. I must say that many followed the theme, something quite rare, as many give themselves the license to invent on the red carpet. But, on this occasion everyone was clear on Lagerfeld's concept, with the odd exception, but without further ado, let's get started. Dua Lipa for me was the revelation of the night, she imposed fashion with a Chanel from the 1992 collection and accompanied it with a rather simple styling. A goddess. Another who opted for a dress from a past Chanel collection was co-host Penelope Cruz who opted for one of those hand-embroidered cape dresses. She looked gorgeous. A 10 out of 10. But, she served completely an amazing total look, that if she was late, but she never disappoints. Gorgeous, like Anne Hathaway who came giving face, giving body, giving good vibes, I love this woman and she has chosen a Versace to delight us. Pedro Pascal and his legs, have ignited the debate on social networks, gorgeous, daring and giving good fashion, I still owe a whole post dedicated to this icon of men's fashion, who also chose a Valentino. Bad Bunny well, he attended I thought he looked pristine, even though it was just a white suit with a cape, I would wear that blazer, because I loved the back showing. He looked good in Jacquemus. Kim Kardashian was dressed by Schiaparelli, Kendall Jenner by Marc Jacobs and Kylie Jenner by a Haider Ackerman for Jean Paul Gaultier, this year I didn't like them. Maybe it's a personal perception. Lil Nas X, I love him, but this time like nothing happened he was "dressed" or rather adorned by Pat McGrath, a total fail. Karlie Kloss, even though she is pregnant wore a Loewe dress, which to me made her look very square. Robert Pattinson was dressed in a rather meh black suit by dior and Suki Waterhouse wore transparencies and looked correct in a Fendi dress. Kim Petras wore a Marc Jacobs dress rather overloaded and Dena Kemp jewelry, she passed without shame or glory. Salma Hayek, was dressed in a red Gucci dress. She looked amazing, I feel she delivered. Nicole Kidman, who never disappoints, was dressed by Chanel in a dress that she had already worn for a commercial, beautiful, this woman never disappoints. Kristen Stewart, well, she also attended in Chanel, but with a black and white suit, I don't want to be mean, but this woman gives the feeling that she doesn't want to live anymore. Doja Cat also wanted to emulate Choupette with an Oscar de la Renta, too bad we had already seen it on Jared Letto. Salma Hayek, estuvo vestida con un vestido rojo de la firma Gucci. Kristen Stewart, bueno, ella asistió también en Chanel, pero con un traje blanco y negro, no quiero ser malo, pero esta mujer da la sensación de que no quiere vivir más. Doja Cat quiso emular también a Choupette con un Óscar de la Renta, lástima que ya lo habíamos visto en Jared Letto. The youtuber Emma Chamberlain, wore a Miu Miu, which did not accentuate her proportions very well. While it is true that pastel colors were also part of Karl's hallmark, I did not love this look. Conan Gray, on the other hand, was for me the best dressed man of the gala. He wore a Balmain suit that he adorned with a fan and a jacket full of sequins and encrusted jewels. Una ola de calor azota al norte de Suramérica, en Venezuela no hubo aumento de sueldo mínimo y el mundo sigue girando, pero el primer lunes de mayo también pasó y se llevó a cabo el evento más prestigioso de moda en Estados Unidos, el más importante y en el que todos quieren estar, pero pocos son los escogidos. Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty es el nombre de la exposición que buscaba recaudar fondos en beneficio del Costume Institute. Este año, como siempre se virilizaron varios looks, unos por las razones equivocadas y otros porque fueron brillantes. Debo decir que muchos siguieron la temática, algo bastante raro, ya que muchos se dan la licencia de inventar en la alfombra roja. Pero, en esta ocasión todos tenían claros el concepto de Lagerfeld, con una que otra excepción, pero sin más preámbulos, comenzamos.
A quien no me esperaba por su embarazo era a Rihanna, que como siempre nunca decepciona y se ha llevado un Valentino Haute Couture. Pero, ella sirvió completamente un total look increíble, eso si llego tarde, pero nunca decepciona. Preciosa, como Anne Hathaway que llegó dando rostro, dando cuerpo, dando buena vibra, esta mujer me encanta y ha elegido un Versace para deleitarnos. Pedro Pascal y sus piernas, han encendido el debate en las redes sociales, precioso, atrevido y dando buena moda, sigo debiendo un post completo dedicado a este icono de la moda masculina, que también eligió un Valentino.
Lo más viral de la noche fue Jared Letto, llegó vestido de la gata Choupette y los memes no se hicieron esperar. Bad Bunny bueno, él asistió me pareció que se veía impoluto, aunque solo fue un traje blanco con una capa, me pondría ese blazer, porque amé que se dejara ver la espalda. Se veía bien en Jacquemus. Kim Kardashian estuvo vestida de Schiaparelli, Kendall Jenner por Marc Jacobs y Kylie Jenner por un Haider Ackerman para Jean Paul Gaultier, este año no me gustaron. Quizás sea una percepción personal. Lil Nas X, yo lo amo, pero esta vez como que no sucedió nada estaba “vestido” o más bien adornado de Pat McGrath, un fallo total.
Emily Ratajkowski eligió un Tory Burch color rosa maquillaje, pero al final creo que fue un look simplón. Karlie Kloss, aunque está embarazada se puso un vestido de Loewe, que para mí la hacía ver muy cuadrada. Robert Pattinson fue vestido de un traje negro bastante meh de la firma dior y Suki Waterhouse vistió transparencias y se veía correcta con un vestido Fendi. Kim Petras lució un vestido de Marc Jacobs bastante sobrecargado y joyería de Dena Kemp, paso sin pena ni gloria.
Cara Delevingne ha querido homenajear a Karl con una camisa blanca con capa de la firma, que no sé si era el indicado, pero que cumplía con el concepto. La youtuber Emma Chamberlain, lució un Miu Miu, que no le acentuaba muy bien sus proporciones. Si bien es cierto que los colores pastel también eran parte del sello de Karl, no me encantó este look. Conan Gray, por su parte fue para mí el hombre mejor vestido de la gala. Iba con un traje de Balmain que engalanaba con un abanico y una chaqueta repleta de lentejuelas y joyas incrustadas.

Podría hablar todo el día de la Met Gala y aún seguiría triste por la ausencia de Lady Gaga y Lana Del Rey, y de verdad es que tenía muchas esperanzas de verlas en esta oportunidad. Escoger a mis favoritos de la noche no es tarea sencilla, porque hubo muchos trajes que amé, pero si debo escoger los que MÁS me gustaron serían Anne Hathaway, Lil Nas X, Kendall Jenner, Doja Cat, Bad Bunny y Jared Leto. Aunque estuve fascinado con muchos más. Fue divertido que fuera el lunes porque justo era el día del trabajador y en casita nos estábamos tomando unas cervezas y criticando los trajes de cada famoso que iba llegando.
