Welcome to another DeFi Lab, a place for degenerate experiments with DeFi protocols.
We brought a dapp that aims to be on ALL blockchains, allowing users to navigate between all of them and have passive income spread across their ecosystem.
Today we are going to meet Elk Finance.
What will you learn today

What is Elk Finance?
Elk Finance is a DeFi protocol that is present in 16 different blockchains. A priori, the dapp arose with the demand from the crypto community for more efficient and faster cross-chain transfers. and less expensive for users. It currently operates in the main DeFi chains, compatible with EVM -built on Ethereum-, but its roadmap shows that it intends to develop its presence in blockchains such as Terra, Solana and Cosmos, ecosystems that were highly developed by the end of 2021.
The protocol was not limited to the exploitation of bridges. It has established partnerships with several established DeFi projects on each of the chains, including ShapeShift DAO. As a result, it contributed to improving the liquidity of tokens traded on networks spread throughout the DeFi sector, becoming a key player in improving token buying and selling conditions.
Currently, Elk Finance offers good trading opportunities to FOX and a FOX/ELK poll.
But now, let's get to practice!
How to send crypto for 16 different blockchains 🛰️
The Elk Finance bridge is built on two pillars: its native ELK token and Elknet.
The sending of tokens is done using ELK. Therefore, the first step is to acquire it and only then send the tokens to other chains.
- Go to the [Elk Finance] website(https://app.elk.finance/)
- You will be redirected to the exchange tab.
- Please note that at the top, the protocol will bring your wallet address, the amount of ELK in your wallet and the network chosen by you.
- To understand the bridge in practice, let's send ELK to the Gnosis network to buy FOX.
- Sell a token of your choice to acquire ELK.
- In our case, the MATIC token will be sold.
- Click "Make Exchange" and confirm the transaction.
- After confirmation, the transaction will be sent to the blockchain and a popup will appear allowing you to add ELK to your wallet. Click "Add Elk to Metamask" to make it easier to see in the wallet.
- Once you have received the ELKs in your wallet, you will be able to send your assets to other blockchains. To do this, click on "Elknet" at the top of your screen.
- Upon entering the file, the protocol brings some observations regarding the use of your bridge.
- The bridge only supports ELK transfer.
- The maximum amount per transfer is 10,000 ELK.
- Wait a minimum of 2 minutes between transfers.
- You will see your balance in ELK and you will have to choose which blockchain your tokens will be sent to. ELK currently supports 16 different blockchains. You can get more details about each of them here.
- If you do not have tokens for the payment of the transaction fees on the blockchain that you will receive, Elk Finance automatically converts 1 ELK to the native currency of the network, which facilitates this process.
- An example: I will send ELK to Binance Smart Chain, but I don't have BNB to pay the fees. This functionality allows the acquisition of BNB through Elk Finance
- To do this, check the box “Swap $ELK 1 for gas” and the conversion of 1 ELK will be carried out.

- If you do not have tokens for the payment of the transaction fees on the blockchain that you will receive, Elk Finance automatically converts 1 ELK to the native currency of the network, which facilitates this process.
- In our case, we will send our ELKs to Cadena Gnosis.
- Click "Transfer" and confirm the transaction in Metamask.
- After your confirmation, a pop-up will appear with the message "Transfering ELK to Bifrost" with a link to view the block explorer. It is a notice from Elk Finance that your tokens have been sent to the bridge.
- Shortly after, the transaction will appear in "Latest Transfers"
- Upon completion, you will be informed that the sending of tokens has been completed.
- To verify, access the blockchain chosen by you to receive the ELKs.
- Notice in the image above: we are on the Gnosis blockchain and the sent ELKs have already been received.
- to buy FOX, simply select from the variety provided by Elk Finance.
- Click “Change”, confirm the transaction and finish 🚀

How to Earn Passive Earnings on Elk Finance on FOX and ELK 💰
While focused on developing more efficient bridges for users, Elk also innovated when it came to yield farming. The protocol remunerates users who contribute to the liquidity of the protocol by depositing their tokens in the dozens of pools spread across its ecosystem. And it brought more benefits to its liquidity providers.
In DeFi, one of the biggest problems is the so-called Impermanent Loss (IL). Pools are designed to rebalance deposited assets, keeping them at the same initial value. When two tokens are deposited in it, the variation in the prices of both can negatively affect the performance of the user. The ideal condition would be the inalterability of the values, but we know about the volatility of the crypto market.
With that in mind, Elk Finance created impermanent loss protection. This mechanism is a native solution to offset losses incurred with IL with the equivalent compensation in ELK.
Understanding these concepts, we will show how they work in practice.
- Access the "Farms" tab on the Elk Finance website
- In it will be all the possibilities of passive income of the protocol.
- You will find different farms on each of the blockchains. Explore them.
- For today's example, we will use the FOX/ELK farm on the Gnosis network.
- Important information about the information in the Farms:
- Total Deposited: Amount of deposited tokens
- Pool rate: Daily prize issue volume in ELK
- Booster token rate: Daily issuance volume of partner token rewards
- This data will only be relevant to farms supported by Elk Finance partner projects, such as ShapeShift DAO.
- Current APR: Annualized return.
- All farms need ELP: Elk Liquidity tokens. These are tokens that represent your deposit in the pool.
- The creation of the ELP consists of joining the two tokens of the farm in equal amounts. That is, in a deposit of 20 dollars, it will be necessary to acquire 10 dollars of each token. In our case we will need 50% ELK/50% FOX.
- Click "Deposit" on the FOX/ELK farm.
- A tab will open showing your ELPs and the rewards that will be withdrawn. Since we want to provide liquidity for the first time, click "Add FOX-ELK liquidity"
- You will be redirected to ELP creation.
- With FOX and ELK in your wallet in a 50/50 ratio, click "Supply".
- A simulation of your ELP will be displayed. Knowing the amount, click "Confirm Supply" and accept the transaction in Metamask.
- Elk interface will recognize your deposit and bring estimated daily earnings from ELK and FOX rewards.
- The incentives distributed by Elk Finance to offset the Impermanent Loss will appear only a few days after you enter the farm. Rewards are given at 2.5% per day and to reach the maximum level of incentives against IL you must hold your deposit for 40 days.
- Tokens can be redeemed earlier. However, the protection will be proportional to the time spent on the Farm.
By completing all these steps, you will already be receiving FOX and ELK for contributing to Elk Finance's liquidity and protected against impermanent losses!

¿Qué es Elk Finance?

El puente de Elk Finance se basa en dos pilares: su token ELK nativo y Elknet.

- Si no tiene tokens para el pago de las tarifas de transacción en la cadena de bloques que recibirá, Elk Finance convierte automáticamente 1 ELK a la moneda nativa de la red, lo que facilita este proceso.

Cómo obtener ganancias pasivas en Elk Finance en FOX y ELK 💰
Aunque se centró en desarrollar puentes más eficientes para los usuarios, Elk también innovó en lo que respecta al yield farming. El protocolo remunera a los usuarios que contribuyen a la liquidez del protocolo depositando sus tokens en las docenas de grupos repartidos por su ecosistema. Y trajo más beneficios a sus proveedores de liquidez.
En DeFi, uno de los mayores problemas es la llamada Pérdida Impermanente o Impermanent Loss (IL). Los pools están diseñados para reequilibrar los activos depositados, manteniéndolos en el mismo valor inicial. Cuando se depositan dos tokens en él, la variación en los precios de ambos puede afectar negativamente el rendimiento del usuario. La condición ideal sería la inalterabilidad de los valores, pero sabemos de la volatilidad del criptomercado.
Con eso en mente, Elk Finance creó una protección contra pérdidas impermanentes. Este mecanismo es una solución nativa para compensar las pérdidas incurridas con IL con la compensación equivalente en ELK.
Entendiendo estos conceptos, mostraremos cómo funcionan en la práctica.
- Acceda a la pestaña "Farms" en el sitio web de Elk Finance
- En él estarán todas las posibilidades de ingresos pasivos del protocolo.
- Encontrarás diferentes granjas en cada una de las cadenas de bloques. Explóralos.
- Para el ejemplo de hoy, usaremos la granja FOX/ELK en la cadena Gnosis.
- Información importante sobre la información en las Farms:
- Total Deposited: Cantidad de tokens depositados
- Pool rate: Volumen de emisión diaria de premios en ELK
- Booster token rate: Volumen de emisión diaria de recompensas en token de socio
