Me devolví a mi casa.

Has it ever happened to you that you woke up one day with a gut feeling that completely stopped you from doing something? I’m sure it has—a moment when you thought, something’s going to happen to me, and you went back home or changed course, or even took shelter...

I’ve only ever talked about this with three people—people I know believe me and who’ve been through similar situations. It’s just not easy to talk about; some people might think it’s made up or exaggerated. For me, it’s real, and I often try to figure out if it’s just anxiety or if there’s something else going on that I’m not seeing but my intuition is.
And I’m telling you this—which I just wrote at 8:50 in the morning—because I came back from the bus stop.
To start my day, I woke up not feeling very eager, but still, I got ready in a comfortable outfit, with a positive attitude, had breakfast, took some photos to cheer myself up, and headed out. First, I went to the nearest store to get a cash advance to pay for my bus fare, walking slowly and wondering if people would actually be going to work. The streets were deserted, empty—you couldn’t hear a thing, not even cars or the usual birdsong.

You’ve probably heard that Venezuela is in a period of national mourning because of everything that’s happened with the earthquakes, and it’s right to respect that silence. Even though activities resumed today and I had to go, the truth is that this silence was very special—and incredibly strange—and it really unsettled me.
With all those thoughts running through my mind, I walked to the bus stop, and there was no one waiting there—even though I usually wait for the bus with 10 or more people, surrounded by snack shops, cars driving by, and a truck unloading sand at the hardware store, which drives me crazy. But today, none of that happened.
During the few minutes I waited, I started breaking out in a cold sweat and hyperventilating; no one arrived, no public transportation passed by—not even the trams on the nearest line. The shops were closed, and the hardware store didn’t open; no one was walking by, there was no noise, and no windows were open… So I made my decision.
I went back home. I switched streets in the hope of seeing more people, and the only thing that comforted me was seeing a man in the distance. I kept wondering, was it just my anxiety after all? Except this time it was real—my thoughts attacked me. Is it worth exposing myself like this?

I feel bad because I wanted to go to work—just not like this. A few years ago, I had some bad experiences because I didn’t follow my instinct or intuition—I still don’t know what to call it—but over the years I’ve learned to listen to myself more, pay attention to what I feel, and make firm decisions.
Once, when I was still a student and leaving college, I was running late and no buses were coming. I’d been waiting for a long time and wanted to walk so I could get there faster. There were several alleys, but I got nervous and turned back; I gave up and waited for the bus. The next day, some classmates told me that several guys had been mugged in the alleys because they’d left in a hurry; I just thought, Thank goodness I turned back.
Years after that incident, I got on a bus that was also leaving from the university. It was very late—around 7 p.m.—and I’d had a really bad feeling ever since I got on, but I had no other options. Still, I got off at the first stop I saw, no matter how far away it was; I didn’t think much of it and just started walking. A few days later, I ran into a neighbor who had been on that same bus that day. He told me that as soon as I got off the bus, two men got on at that very same stop and mugged everyone on board. I was shocked.
Ever since then, I always think, if it didn’t happen, it wasn’t meant to be, or if I sense something, I listen to my gut. Like today—if my body is breaking out in a cold sweat and I’m hyperventilating at the thought of putting myself out there like that, I’d better listen to it and stay home.
By the way, I hadn't posted it this morning because I didn't have any power or phone credit ;C
