This time, I want to tell you about how I got creative and started designing and making clothes. It turns out I started with something I’d had in mind for a while: a plaid skirt. So as soon as I had some money, I bought the fabric, the elastic straps, the thread, and other materials, and I sewed it. I had some examples from the internet, but I sewed it by hand. I spent about 7 hours sewing like crazy, and the result was a real beauty.
There are ideas that stick in your head for days, until you have no choice but to make them a reality. That’s what happened to me with the plaid skirt I’d had my heart set on for a while. I had a clear vision, but I just needed to take that first step.

Where did the idea come from? From my favorite TV series, which is set in Scotland in 1745. Seeing so many beautiful dresses and skirts made me think about how much I loved them—and how much I’d love to have one. The first thing I did was look for a store that sold them. When I couldn’t find anything, I thought, I can do this—and sure enough, I did.

I chose the fabric with the perfect pattern, the straps, the thread, and a couple more details. I didn’t have a professional pattern or a sewing machine on hand—just references I’d saved from the Internet and a strong desire to create something of my own.
What followed were seven straight hours of hand-sewing. Seven hours during which nothing else existed but the thread, the needle, the fold in the fabric, and me. I must confess that at times I felt like I was sewing like crazy, and my hand hurt so much that I had to stop for a few seconds, stretch it out, and keep going—but the thrill of seeing how the pieces fit together outweighed any fatigue.
When I finally made the last stitch and saw the final result, the satisfaction was complete. Creating a garment with your own hands, with patience and attention to detail, is an incredible feeling. It was completely worth every minute. In the end, I added buttons, and it turned out perfect—it fit me just right, too. And of course, it has its little details and imperfections because, after all, it’s my first piece made with a somewhat tricky fabric, and yet I pulled it off.
