Vix has become my alternative platform for the best series or movies that go a bit off the beaten track. So, this time my dear #Hivermovies I bring you a short review of a series I enjoyed recently called:

María Félix- The Lady (2022).

Vix se ha convertido en mi plataforma alternativa de las mejores series o películas que salen un poco de lo convencional. Por eso, en esta oportunidad mis queridos #Hivermovies les traigo una reseña breve sobre una serie que disfruté hace poco llamada: María Félix- La doña (2022).

What I liked

What attracted me to this story were two things: first that it was based on real life events, as it was told by several people linked to the artist and the second is the slogan they used which reads "A WOMAN ADVANCED IN HER TIME".

I have seen several series of iconic Mexican women and what comes out of me is admiration. I don't know if it's because it strikes a chord with me, because I am a woman or because I simply see how, despite living in such macho societies with aberrant treatment, they can move forward, smile, triumph and leave traces that make them immortal in the passing of time.

Maria Felix was born into a very orthodox and traditional family; a hard-working father, tough in character, tough in his treatment; a submissive and prudent mother who only knew how to raise children; numerous siblings where there was the selfishness of upbringing but where there was no call of attention or care to not allow the unfair things that later triggered the "bad upbringing" of which she was part and from childhood she sought to change unsuccessfully during her childhood.

Another moment of care (ever the observer of human behaviour), was her upbringing and her way of seeing things differently; How terrible to be born in a womb where inequalities, authenticity and opinions are not respected but are covered up with irrational beliefs such as "girls should wear dresses", "you're a big girl, you should look for a boyfriend", "shut up about what your father says" and things that do not know the damage they do to the self-esteem of women who then do not know how to face the world and therefore repeat the same patterns they learned at home making a vicious circle of mistreatment and abuse.

How hard it was for Maria Felix to make a place for herself because of who she was! According to the story and what I later read, she was a woman with her admirable and unique natural beauty, which quickly opened doors for her acting jobs. And I liked this because she didn't even imagine an artistic career but when she was on the spot, she wasted all her talent becoming an icon of the screen first in Mexico and then internationally.

I liked this because, yes, it was her beauty that made her attract a producer to become an actress, but she didn't just stay with that, she showed talent, prepared herself, became independent and was able to do everything necessary to make her place. I find her story inspiring, because it allows us to identify that sometimes we are afraid to do things, or we have to occupy positions for which we were not prepared, but once we are there, we women are capable of succeeding.

Unfortunately she was not very lucky in love, but I also loved this because it did not discourage her, nor was it an impediment, but rather it made her strong, brave and she was even able to enjoy a true love (albeit for a short time), which accepted her as she was without reproach and she enjoyed it to the fullest. I also loved her daring to break stereotypes and be with younger men and enjoy her love and sexuality until the end of her days; in short, this woman lived as she wanted to live without listening to the disapproval or "what will they say" of other people's morality.

Her relationship with her son I also applaud because he was her friend and confidant. She admired his career, his achievements, in the series she comes across as somewhat cold and distant but over the years they made and managed to balance that distance a little, with companionship and respect for each other's lives. Their relationship was painful and I hated it, but I also understood all the pain she brought with her, which was the way she acted towards her son, I mean, I don't justify her but I understand her.

Two facts were also wonderful like the fact that she played Doña Bárbara in the novel of our Rómulo Gallegos and that gave her her nickname Long live our country! 😊, which, by the way, I was going to look it up and enjoy it. And on the other hand, the story of the song Maria Bonita, which her husband Agustín Lara wrote for her and which she also immortalised, and which can still be heard in Mexican classics.

Finally, the protagonists, the scenery, the actors, the way of interweaving the events, the performances, the costumes, the atmosphere, the cars, believe me, everything was very beautiful and adapted to its time. The series is very sad scenes, scenes of mistreatment, decisions, few joys, many reflections. I liked the series because it shows a woman who, until her final days, lived being respected and honoured for her talent and success.

Lo que me gustó Lo que me atrajo de esta historia fueron dos cosas: primero que estuvo basado en hechos de la vida real, ya que lo contaron varias personas ligadas a la artista y la segunda es el eslogan que usaron que dice así "UNA MUJER ADELANTADA EN SU ÉPOCA". He visto varias series de mujeres icónicas de México y lo que me sale es admiración. No sé si porque toca mi fibra, porque soy mujer o porque simplemente veo como a pesar de vivir en sociedades tan machistas y con un trato aberrante, pueden salir adelante, sonreír, triunfar y marcar huellas que las hacen inmortales al transcurrir de los tiempos. Maria Felix nació en una familia muy ortodoxa y tradicional; padre trabajador, duro de cáracter, recio en su trato; una madre sumisa y prudente que solo sabía críar hijos; hermanos numerosos donde existía el egoísmo propio de la crianza pero donde no hubo algún llamado de atención o cuidado para no permitir las cosas tan injustas que después desencadenaron la "mala crianza" de la cual formó parte y desde pequeña buscó la manera de cambiar sin éxito durante su niñez.

Otro momento de cuidado (siempre yo observadora de los comportamientos humanos), fue su crianza y su manera de ver diferente las cosas; que terrible nacer en un seno donde no son respetadas las diferencias, autenticidad u opiniones sino que son tapadas con _creencias irracionales_ como " las niñas deben usar vestidos", "ya estas grandecita, debes buscar novio", "calle ante lo que dice su papá" y cosas que no saben el daño que le hacen a una autoestima de la mujer que después no sabe como enfrentarse al mundo y por lo tanto, repite los mismos patrones que aprendió en casa haciendo un círculo vicioso del maltrato y abuso. ¡Que díficil para MarÍa Félix hacerse un lugar por lo que era! Según la historia y lo que después leí, era una mujer con su belleza natural admirable y única, lo que le abrió las puertas rápidamente a sus trabajos como actriz. Y esto me gustó porque ella ni siquiera se imaginaba una carrera artística pero cuando estuvo en el sitio, derrochó todo su talento convirtiendose en un ícono de la pantalla primero de México y luego a nivel internacional. Esto me gustó porque si es cierto, fue su belleza la que la hizo atrapar a un productor para ser actriz, pero no solo se quedó con eso sino que demostró talento, se preparó, se independizó y pudo hacer todo lo necesario para hacer su lugar. Me parece inspiradora su historia, porque nos permite identificarnos que a veces tenemos miedo en hacer cosas, o nos toca ocupar posiciones para las cuales no estabamos preparadas pero una vez que estamos allí, la smujeres somos capaces de salir airosas y triunfadoras ¡Vamos que si podemos!

Lamentablemente no tuvo mucha suerte en el amor, pero esto también me encantó porque no se amilanó ni fue un impedimento, mas bien la hizo fuerte, valiente y hasta pudo disfrutar de un amor verdadero (aunque de poco tiempo), que la aceptó tal como era sin reproches y ella lo disfrutó al máximo. También me encantó su osadía de romper estereotipos y estar con hombres menores y disfrutar también de su amor y sexualidad hasta el fin de sus dias; en pocas palabras, esa mujer vivió como quiso sin escuchar contrariedades o "qué dirán" de la moralidad de otras personas. Su relación con su hijo también la aplaudo porque era su amigo y confidente. Admiró su carrera, sus logros, en la serie se muestra algo fría y distante pero a lo largo de los años hicieron y lograron sopesar un poco esa distancia, con compañia y respeto por la vida del otro. Fue dolorosa su relación y la odié, pero también entendí todo el dolor que ella traía que fue la forma como pudo actuar ante su hijo, es decir, no la justifico pero la entiendo.

Dos hechos también fueron maravillosos como el hecho de que interpretó a Doña Bárbara en la novela de nuestro Rómulo Gallegos y que le dio su apodo ¡Viva nuestro país! 😊, que por cierto quedé en buscarla para disfrutarla. Y por otro lado, la historia de la canción María Bonita que le hizo su marido Agustín Lara y que también inmortalizó, escuchándose aun en los clásicos mexicanos. Por último, las protagonistas, los escenarios, los actores, la forma de entrelazar los hechos, las actuaciones, vestuario, ambientes, carros, creánme que todo estuvo muy bonito y adaptado a su época. La serie llega por las escenas tristes, de maltrato, decisiones, pocas alegrías, muchas reflexiones. La serie me gustó porque muestra a una mujer que hasta sus días finales, vivió siendo respetada y honrada por su talento y éxito.

What I didn't like

Look, there were few things that disenchanted me. At times it was boring, the dialogue was long, but nothing that later other scenes lifted my spirits and I kept watching the series until the end.

Obviously, they had to show everything he lived through, his history, his origins and maybe some signs that would allow us to be part of everything that happened in his life to become who he was and everything he did.

I have no criticisms or positions that I don't like, so I recommend it if you like this autobiography, to know a little more about the artists and to know a little more about "María Bonita".

Lo que no me gustó Miren, fueron pocas cosas que me desencantaron. A veces se veía aburrida, los diálogos largos, pero nada que después otras escenas levantaban mi ánimo y seguía viendo la serie hasta el final. Obviamente, tenían que mostrar todo lo que vivió, su historia, sus orígenes y quizás algunas señales que nos permitieran ser particípes de todo lo que pasó en su vida para llegar a ser quien fue y todo lo que hizo. No tengo críticas o posturas que no me gustaran, así que la recomiendo si les gusta esta autobiografía, saber un poco mas de los artistas y conocer un poco mas de "María Bonita".
