The union of Heaven and Earth - Ankh Cross Necklace carved in Wood and Metal. [ENG-ESP]

Hello dear friends of Jewelry, I hope you are all doing well. I hope you had a good weekend. I was off with my family, but I had enough time to create a piece and share it with you. I made a symbol. You know I love symbols, but this is one of the oldest that exists in all civilizations. It's a cross, especially the Ankh Cross, also known as the Egyptian Cross, found in ancient hieroglyphs in the pyramids. The Egyptians associated it with life, and then it acquired a more spiritual character, where it speaks of the union of heaven and earth, the divine and the human. And with this in mind, I made this cross carved in wood with a small piece of aluminum metal that I took from a beer can to turn it into a real jewel. I'll briefly explain how I made it. I hope you like it.

Hola queridos amigos de Jewelry, espero que todos se encuentren muy bien, deseo que hayan pasado un buen fin de semana, yo estuve de descanso, con mi familia, pero con el tiempo suficiente para crear una pieza y compartirla con ustedes. He realizado un símbolo, ya sabe que adoro los símbolos, pero este es uno de las más antiguos que existen en todas las civilizaciones, se trata de una cruz, en especial la Cruz de Ankh, o también conocida como Cruz Egipcia, encontrada en antiguos jeroglifos en las pirámides, los egipcios la relacionaban a la vida, y luego fue adquiriendo un carácter más espiritual, donde se habla de la unión del cielo y la tierra, lo divino y lo humano. Y con esto en mente he realizado esta cruz tallada en madera con una pequeña pieza de metal de aluminio que saqué de una lata de cerveza para convertirla en una auténtica joya. Explico brevemente como la hice, espero que les guste.

PROCESS

I took a piece from an old frame that had become damaged over time, so I removed several pieces that I could use for carving. I prepared one of them, cutting it in two and using only one part. Once it was cut, I also sanded it a bit to remove any impurities. I cut the piece along the sides, but not into a square shape, but rather a trapezoid, or at least in that style; I thought it was more beautiful to do it that way.

Tomé un trozo de un viejo marco que se había dañado con el tiempo, así que saqué varias piezas que me podrían servir para tallar. En una de ellas la fui preparando, cortándola en dos y utilizando una sola parte, una vez cortada también le pasé un poco la lija para limpiar las impurezas. Corté la pieza por los lados pero sin hacer una figura cuadrada sino en forma de trapecio, o al menos de ese estilo, me pareció más hermoso hacerlo así.

After thoroughly cleaning the wood and leaving it smooth, I was able to draw the silhouette of the Ankh Cross. The goal is to carve the figure and then insert the same cross, but made of metal. The Egyptian cross is similar to other symbols of the cross, except that the upper part is made of an oval, while the rest is made in the same way, with two intersecting arms.

Después de limpiar bien la amder ay dejarla lisa pude hacer el dibujo de la silueta de la Cruz de Ankh, el objetivo es tallar la figura para luego introducir la misma cruz pero ya de metal. La cruz egipcia es parecida a otros símbolos de la cruz con la diferencia de que la parte superior está conformada por una óvalo, mientras que el resto esta hecha de igual forma cons dos brazos que se cruzan.

Next, I began carving the wood into the shape of the cross I'd drawn earlier, gradually using the smallest blades. Before doing so, I sharpened it slightly, as the tip was somewhat worn, so it was easier to carve the shape later. Finally, using fine sandpaper, I began to clean the inside of the shape until it was smooth.

Después comencé a tallar la madera con la figura de la cruz antes dibujada, poco a poco utilizando las cuchillas más pequeñas. Antes e hacerlo le saqué un poco de filo, ya que estaba algo desgastada la punta, así luego fue más facil hacer la figura. Por último con una lija fina comencé a limpiar el interior de la figura hasta que quedara uniforme.

After finishing the wood part, now comes the metal part. This is the first time I've done this combination, adding a metal part to the carved wood part. I draw the silhouette of the cross on paper to make a template. As a metal material, I use an aluminum can, which I cut and turn into a sheet like paper. I place the previously drawn template on top of it, and I cut the piece until I have it completely.

Luego de terminar con la parte de madera, ahora viene la parte de metal, es la primera vez que realizo esta combinación, de agregar una parte de metal a la parte tallada en madera. Dibujo la silueta de la cruz en papel para hacer una plantilla, como material metalico utilizo una lata de aluminio, la cual corto y convierto en una lámina como si fuera papel, encima de ella coloco la plantilla antes dibujada, y voy recortando la pieza hasta obtenerla por completo.

Now it's time for the union, of the divine with the human. I glue the aluminum piece onto the wooden piece. After this, for a better finish, I varnish it. I made a small mistake here, as the varnish contained thinner, which weakened the glue. So I had to remove the piece again and varnish it separately. Once both pieces were dry, I placed them back together, and that's how it was finished.

Ahora es el momento de la unión, de lo divino con lo humano. La pieza de aluminio lo integro a la pieza de madera utilizando pegamento. Después de esto, para un mejor acabado le doy un baño de barniz, aquí cometí un pequeño error, ya que el barniz al contener tiner hizo que el pegamento se debilitara. De manera que tuve que extraer la pieza de nuevo y hacer el baño de barniz por separado, una vez secas ambas piezas ahí las coloqué unidas nuevamente, y así quedó finalizado.
