Sandbag House Reno Record - another step forward

Last July, I reported on the second staircase, and how things were not as they seemed. The new staircase would not work as envisaged. And B, the Builder, rued the day he chose the craftsman he chose. His chosen artisan was, for a whole host of reasons, not available.

Anyway, he got on with other thing in the reno until two, no three things happened. One, I am getting enquiries from friends who want to visit; two, as things reach fruition, the route march from my new bedroom in what was the void, which now passes through two closed doors, is taking its toll, and three, he's found the right person.

So, Saturday saw a big leap forward: the old new stairs were "unpicked" and the basis of new, workable to-be-made-safe stairs put in place.

Looking at the bottom of the stairs and towards the dining room.

The guy that did the job, not only knows his oats (or should I say stairs) but was able to come up with a plan that deals with the unexpected discovery that the house plan and reality did not jive.

Individual steps still need bracing, a couple of treads need extending and bannisters put up. These will be last, and once The stairs are safe, I shall be able to use them.
I am looking forward to a much less circuitous route from my bedroom, via a walk-through cupboard, and down the original stairs and through The Corner to my living room and kitchen.

Oh, and in case you are wondering about the kaleidoscope of wood colours, it's always been, still is planned that they, and all the floors in the house and The Corner will be painted.

View down the stairwell

yes, the gubbins will be boarded up and/or hidden with the reeds that formed the original ceiling.

Let's see if I can contain myself and only next share an update when they are actually done. If not painted...

Until next time
