Constant Passion

No, it's not what you think! What were you thinking?

I have been growing and preserving and cooking my own produce (and locally sourced fresh produce) for years. It's a skill (or fascination or passion) that has grown in the 10 years in McGregor. Although, I admit, somewhat dampened by the drought.

Last night's supper is a great case in point: homemade pasta and salad. With the pasta: sauteed courgettes, olives from our neighbour that I cured and pickled with fresh sweet basil and a dollop of passata.

All the green in the salad is from the garden.

I am impatiently waiting for our tomatoes.

Speaking of, that is the last of the passata that I made earlier this year.

That final jar, I took out of my market stock because solitary jars look both sad and kinda bad. He was happier in my pantry (and now, the fridge...).

A good end to a somewhat frenetic day.

Until next time, be well

If this post might seem familiar, it's because I'm doing two things:

  • re-vamping old recipes. As I do this, I am adding them in a file format that you can download and print. If you download recipes, buy me a coffee. Or better yet, a glass of wine....?
  • and "re-capturing" nearly two years' worth of posts.
I blog to the Hive blockchain using a number of decentralised appplications.
  • From Wordpress, I use the Exxp Wordpress plugin. If this rocks your socks, click here or on on the image below to sign up.

    • I also share my occasional Instagram posts to the crypto blockchain, Hive, using the new, and really nifty phone app, Dapplr. On your phone, click here or on the icon, and give it a go.

It all looks wonderful, every mouthwatering morsel of it! I am envious of your everyday skill, cooking and growing all day long!

Nevertheless, I get to come over a drool a little!

Awesome post!

Thank you, Lizelle. And they all have the same base: it's just the seasonal and other bits that I chuck in that change them...

In the omelette tonight! I promise! 🤣

The garden's not obliging at the moment - the weather/season's not right!

Oh god, I'm just waking up and I don't know if it's normal for me to want all this for breakfast, hehe. Everything looks delicious and the best thing is that they are products that you have grown, it makes me a little envious, something I have always wanted is to have a space where I can grow part of what I bring to my table. Happy day or evening! ;)

You are very kind! You know, one doesn't have to have a lot of space to grow a few edibles. The first edibles I ever grew were herbs: on windowsills in my apartment kitchen. My first (single person's) tiny garden grew, among other things, tomatoes. The Husband says that it was one of the first things he noticed the first time he saw it, shortly after we met: I was growing food among my flowers. I still do! So, moral to the story: just do it!

Well, I have some herb plants, oregano, rosemary, chives and I used to have a little tomato plant that gave me some tomatoes and they were the juicier and sweeter than I have ever tasted, but a plague fell on it and it died. Now I'm trying again with the tomatoes. Thank you so much for the advice :)
