Public holiday workproduct

Monday, in South Africa was a public holiday. We, well, I and about 30% of eligible voters went to the polls to vote for a new local government. A far lower poll than in years.

I took to the kitchen. It was a windy, wet day ahead of voting.

It had been on my Friday list which was just too crowded. Although the pickle is ready for eating, it's better left for at least another week, preferably longer.

Labelled, last evening, these pretties go into the stock cupboard and will hit my market stall when the last three jars of the previous batch sell.

if you would to give it a go.

Consequently, yesterday felt like Monday.

In the spirit of waste not, want not, I had brine left over from Monday's pickling job and which makes a great vinaigrette with the addition of olive oil. Plays well with a green salad (with left over steamed green beans).

That went equally well with grilled/braaied chicken. Free range and sourced locally from Red Earth Farm.

PS. I am continuing trying to post daily. I am participating in #HiveBloPoMo and while I hope to do somewhat other than diary posts and which takena whole lot more time, let's see what RL throws at me!

Looks fabulous! The free-range chicken looks amazing! Do you do take-out? Today was voting day for a new governor. Heaven Help us if the wrong one gets in. Life is bad enough, yes?

Those pickles look awesome! I may have to try some of these recipes sooner or later. I love pickles. I need more healthy snacks too! 🤣

Those pickles look sooo good (as does the braaied chicken!)
We abstained from voting this time as the opposition party we've always supported chose an absolutely useless candidate who does nothing to help the community and doesn't even live in our suburb! We got involved a couple of years ago, wanting to help bring about change for everyone, but were told we should only focus on projects that will bring publicity, so do they care? Sadly not as we saw, so we quietly pulled out! Totally disillusioned with all politicians. Once bitten, twice shy, not a good stance I know, but we'll get over it and vote in the national elections.

Thanks, Lizelle. I am curious as to why you didn't spoil your vote? I have done that in the LGE and where I didn't / couldn't vote for the candidate. In a rural area we have 3 votes: ward, local and district municipality. I have also been known (well not really, since one's vote is secret hahaha!) to split my vote 3 ways... This time I voted independent. He didn't get in, maar ja. The person who did is a well known community activist and has done good work in the community. We shall see. And Langeberg is one of the hung councils...sigh...
