10+2 Mistakes Of My Hive Life !

Hive Mistakes.jpg

We all make mistakes. Right?

They are the best teachers out there. Getting into a habit of making them and not repeating the same mistake twice is the best way to boost your performance. Everyone keeps telling you to read books. Do you know why? Because you can teach yourself from others' fuckups. Now everyone is not much of a bookworm like me and so far we don't have any good book published specifically on Hive. Just read continue reading this blog and learn from all the ones I have made in my first 16 months. Some of them were small and some were big but they all count. I will keep working on becoming a better player at this game. So, that I can make more mistakes and learn even more. 🙃 The cycle continues...

  1. Weak Intro Post: Introductory post is your gateway to fame. If you do not use this opportunity then you would be a mega fool like me. Should have revealed a lot more about myself and what I do. There are some great intro posts that truly create an impact from Day 1. It's your best chance to get some serious exposure. Take enough time to build it and give your best shot. Be detailed as much as possible because everyone likes to meet new people and know their interesting stories.
  2. Going Thin & Wide: It was the worst mistake I made so far. Don't buy everything. Instead, choose a set of 3-4 cryptos you want to acquire and work on how to acquire them. You should go narrow with only 3-4 tokens in mind. Once the base is set, you can expand to other opportunities quickly!
  3. Ignored Hive & LEO: Since I went too thin and wide, I couldn't focus on Hive & Leo. Two of the most important cryptos of the Hive ecosystem. Should have bought more initially when I could but I didn't. Hive was 50-60 cents back then it has almost doubled since then and staying consistent with its price.
  4. Inconsistency: I was so inconsistent with my posting even though I made good progress in making comments and connections. Posting every day on Hive puts you in the top 1% automatically and it's one of the most underrated good habits on Hive.
  5. Perfection: It is the killer of all good things possible. I used to be a fanatic before and wanted everything to be flawless before I used to hit that publish button. Never ever let perfection comes in your way to put out something good and you will be amazed to see how much people will like you and support your work. :)) Getting a little better every time would help you in the long term.
  6. Lack of Engagement: Engagement is important for any social media website. It adds to SEO. Engagement also attracts engagement and gives you an opportunity to create a strong bond with other good peeps on Hive & Leo Finance. Apart from this, you can earn crypto for doing so. @Leomarkettalk by @taskmaster4450 really helped me get into a habit of engaging more.
  7. Voting Only Trending Posts: It's not wrong or bad but by voting only on trending posts, I was not leaving any room to support others who are deserving but don't get too much attention. A balance between supporting trending posts and other hidden gems should be there. Diversifying your votes is great for distribution and it can also attract others to your profile which is unlikely if the author you upvote is already getting so many other upvotes.
  8. Using Full VP For Upvotes: I still do it. Voting Power is not unlimited. It takes time to fully recharge. I cannot help but upvote all the replies I get and posts I read. It's a bad habit because it makes you lose on rewards and slow down your activity on chain.
  9. Not Compounding Enough: Apart from being inconsistent with my posting, I was also inconsistent with compounding my rewards out of laziness. Due to this, my growth was slower than expected. Now I keep powering up the rewards I get at least once in 2 days. You can use [Hivetasks to do it quickly]. (https://leofinance.io/@finguru/how-to-stake-multiple-hive-engine-tokens-at-once).
  10. Lack of Patience: When I was new, I used to get disheartened by seeing the rewards on my posts because most of the times there were none. Now I don't even look at them for days. If you don't have patience then you won't be able to survive here. Not every post is going to fetch you $100 unless you already have a big influence on the platform. The good news is that with enough patience and efforts, you can achieve that level. All in due time.
  11. Not Exploring Other Communities: The beauty of Hive is its communities. They make it easier to create, communicate and engage around a particular niche. Most of them have their own tokens so you have the chance to earn more than one crypto with one single post. Apart from Leo Finance I haven't really explored other communities. I am working on it!
  12. Not Using Twitter: Hive Twitter is an underrate gem. It has been a major contributor to my success. If you are not sharing your hive blogs on Twitter then you are missing out on a lot of eyeballs who are ready to read and support your content. I did this mistake, again out of laziness but you don't have to. Moreover, you will helping with the SEO by giving social signals back to Hive and the Hive DApp/Project you are invested in.

If I had to do it all again, I would try not to repeat the above mistakes. I am sure you must have made some of your own and figured out ways to correct them. Let us know in the comments so that all of us can learn from each other. 🙈 Make this weekend count.

All valid points. Consistency is the key, something most overlook.

However, the point about going thin and wide hits home. I see so many doing that. During the ICO craze, I saw people who were bragging about being in 40 different coins. How the hell can you know what is going on with that many projects? The answer is you cannot.

I dont see those people around anymore.

Hahahaha. Most of them have gone bust and now telling people that crypto is a scam. 😂😂

Thanks a ton Task. I learned consistency from you. It's a rare and most precious trait on Hive and in life :')

I hope so too. All newbies make these mistakes. If you have high expectations from Hive then you need to do some work. ;)

These are mostly our common mistakes. The good thing is that we realized them and working on to do better. I've also busted my VP. Have to bring it back up to at least 80%.

I still can't figure out how to manage it properly. :( Maybe when I have a bigger stake. 😂😂

Nice reflecting about our mistakes.
I remember when I began to trade cryptos, as less than 5 USD left me to buy some coins sometimes I use to expend a lot of time reviewing each; once I remember to count more than 20 coins (in the bonanza of 2017). I used to finish really tired after take a look at 20 charts!
Now I am doing exactly what you mention, no more than 4 coins, and mostly in Investment with Rewards. It allows me to make a faster move if I see it necessary.

Awesome strategy. It works. Diversifying your portfolio is great but over diversifying is an overkill. 😂😂 Happened with me back then when I started my crypto journey. Happened with me on Hive too. I made the same mistake twice but realised it sooner in the 2nd time. Better late than never. 🙈

I never did an introduction post and at this point, I don't really see a point in doing so. I agree with many of the points here and I really need to fix up my posting habits a bit more. I only do a few posts a week outside of my Actifit stuff and I still have yet to action on making a Twitter account just for Hive.

These should be a part of your Hive goals J. Go crush them :')

And please do an introduction post. Would like to know more about you and what you like to do other than Hive. Only if you are okay to share some details. Humans connect better to the stories and experiences from fellow human beings.

I think I'll skip the introduction. It doesn't really seem worth it to me at this point in time lol.

It seems like you are not writing the mistakes about yourself only, every one of us do the same mistake. But it's good to learn from the mistake and improve ourselves which we all are doing I guess.

Yes mate. These are the most common mistakes done by almost everyone at some point in time especially when they are new.

I happened to ignore LEO lol, when it was SteemLeo though it was out not understanding what community it was back then, I remembered making a non finance post and someone told me that post is not suitable for this community then I just stayed away lol, I wish the correction was more amicable than has, I still remember the person till date but won't mention the name.

I cannot help but upvote all the replies I get and posts I read.

I do this a lot, my way of thanks for visiting my blog. is it bad for rewards?

Ah! That sucks. But better late than never. What made you come back even after the humiliation.

I do this a lot, my way of thanks for visiting my blog. is it bad for rewards?

You use a lot of your VP and curation rewards decrease if your VP is too low. No major effects on our tiny accounts. 😂

Lol I later realized it is a finance related community and I thought to myself why don't he say that 😅 but anyway I ended up liking Leofinance and yeah here I am...

You're funny about tiny accounts there, never worry we will keep growing!

I'm guilty of some of these. Currently struggling with my voting power but others including not compounding enough and ignoring other tribes. I'm still finding my way as I approach my 5th year on chain lol

Haha. It's a never ending process mate. :')

Handling VP power with not much stake is tricky but I am sure it will only get trickier as we move up the ladder. We have to be learning this art forever. 🔥

I have more leo than hive and use the vote weight multiplier which sometimes confuses me. I might just let them equal out and give my leo and hive votes at the same time. Just easier I think

Nicely done @finguru! 🙂👍 There should be no question that our best "teacher" is the mistakes we make in life. Looking back on a long professional career, I know that was the case with me. Painful at the time, but for the most part, the more painful, the better the lesson learned!

Key concept: You gotta learn from them! Very sad how many are seemingly either unwilling or unable to get this essential point ...

Commenting on two in your list, from my own 4 year "journey" through these "virtual" worlds:

#6 - This is the single biggest factor in the failure of most I have "run across" here on our Hive blockchain. It is hard to overstate the importance of it.

Key concept: In engaging, focus on adding value to the post of the author! Many comments are a waste of time for the person writing them, as they have contributed almost nothing of value ...

#8 - If by "full VP," you are referring to always upvoting at 100%, yeah, that is very problematic. From there, though, deciding what "weight" to put into upvotes is not easy. But, like anything else in life, you just have to start and then "adjust course" along the way ...

Combining these two, I almost always upvote comments, as well as posts. Overall, we are trying to build up the value of the overall ecosystem and encouraging others is a big part of that effort.

Worthy of a rare (for me) reblog. And I have bookmarked it in PeakD, for future reference to others, as seems appropriate.

Keep up the good work! 🦁🚀

Everyone should learn this art from you. So many times, I have seen you writing such great comments. Thank you for adding onto my post with your golden tips.

Haha. I am honoured. :') I didn't know we could bookmark blogs in Peakd. Such a useful features. Please expect more good work from my side. And thanks a ton for your support. Means a lot.

Thanks for this post. I’m kinda new on Hive, but I spent two years in another platform, and even thought there are very similar things, they still have differences, and very important ones.

It helps me to understand a little bit more of Hive!

Which platform you are talking about @belug? Hive is like any other social media platform but there's so much more to it... Keep learning and growing. 🐾🐾

I was talking about Steemit... both are similar but different at the same time.

I have to say that the develop of Hive as a platform and the dynamism of the ecosystem in general, have nothing to do with the other one. Hive shows much more commitment to the project and to the users.

Anyway, I don't want to go deeper on the topic, because Steemit helped me a lot, but sadly, the goal and focus of the platform changed and is far away from what I expect for a blog built on a blockchain (at least for me as a content creator).

Unfortunately, I also did almost, if not all, of the mistakes you've listed. It is only recently that I am realizing my mistake. lol.

Hive got much easier for the newbies than it was on Steem. Stick to what you enjoy the most and engage with those communities. That gives you the common ground, and conversations are easy and fluid. Also, don't underestimate meetups and discord.

Good post, I think we all would do things differently if we could turn back the time. 😄

Aha, it's the last part for me. I have to go and plead with Elon musk to let me have a Twitter account because I have always been banned from having one before he took over. 🥺

Thanks for sharing this journey with us @finguru. I'll personally take them to heart.

We all make some mistakes in life and learning from those mistakes is what makes us better. I will say for some of the points you highlighted it could be out of the fact that you didn't know much then when you were a newbie. I love the fact that Hive always gives us to platform to constantly share, engage and connect. By so doing you are able it learn and improve upon yourself. Thanks for all the areas you touched me, I have also learned something here

You noted very important points here.

I think Hive Twitter is a gem, I know because I can tell when I get engagement on my tweet and then the same people engage the post on hive.

One has to be really patient and take their minds off rewards every time they post. The disappointment of not getting rewarded for effort is what make many abandon their accounts.

I'm guilty of using my full VP everyday 😄 I only remember not to when it's very low. I recently deleted my auto votes on hive.vote because I manually curate everyday so now I can put my VP to good use.

If I had to do it all again, I don't think much would change. I've depended on my earnings since I started and I don't regret on times when I had to withdraw and reduced the rate of my compounding.

Anyway, thanks for this post. It's a great reminder.
