Introducing "84 Charing Cross Road (1987)" as his first work. Starring Anne Bancroft and Anthony Hopkins, this film is in my 20 favorite films. Based on a true story, this work is a collaboration between American author Helene Hanff and London-based bookstore Marks & Co. (Address: 84 Charing Cross Road, London, England) Manager, Frank Doel, based on letters exchanged between 1949 and 1968. This is not a relationship.

The content of the correspondence between these two people forms the frame of the film, suffice it to say that the entire film is a reading of letters. Helene, unable to find the classics in New York, happened to find more publications related to the book by chance, Marks & Co. The story begins with sending the first letter to order the old books he was looking for after seeing an ad he placed. What starts as an official relationship develops into a friendship between Frank, the bookstore manager and all the bookstore employees who work there, who have gradually (but moderately) chatted through correspondence over the last 20 years. the process develops into a closer relationship.

There are so many famous sayings. Here's one of Helene's lines : " I love used books that open to the pages their previous owners read most often." – His interpretation is “When I open a book, it often turns to pages that the previous owner had read frequently, and I really like used books like that.” I think many of you may have had this experience. Have you ever felt the sublime 'friendship' that the thoughts of someone who read this book in the past crossed your mind and sympathized with your thoughts, which transcended countless hours and continued in reality?

As one film critic commented, "This should be irresistible to anyone who can appreciate the kindness of the spirit and the vibrant characters." This film is worth watching, and you will feel its worth again and again after watching it many times.

The video above is of the scene where Frank finds Helene's specially ordered book by asking in various ways, and Helene, who received such a valuable book, sends a thank you letter for this.

Thank you for this beautiful book. I've never had a book with gold-edged pages. (omitted) I like the writing on the fly leaf and the notes in the margins. I love the friendly feeling of turning the page someone else is turning... and reading the passages that have held my interest for a long time."

Although made in 1987, the setting of this film is New York and London in the 50's and 60's. However, it is also interesting that the scenes that can be seen in the film can be reproduced completely without CG even in New York and London in the late 80's; The fact that these two cities embrace the past and the present at that time helped me tremendously in bringing this masterpiece into the world.

The video above shows Helene Hanff and her friends living in the same apartment having fun picking out gifts for Marks & Co while imitating "Raspberry" in English pronunciation. while watching them share a kiss. Don't miss the sight of green trees and leaves swaying in the wind in the spring sky that you can see in this video.

This is a film that has no heartbreaking climax, no love scenes, no exposure, no harsh language, and no violence, but it is a film that will stay in your memory for a long time.
