The Approaching Storm (1 of 6): “break down”

Amy wishes she had never befriended Margot.

Initially, she felt sorry for the awkward new girl.

She can't remember at what point Margot took control of their friendship, but it was way before she persuaded Amy to exact revenge by pouring bleach into Gavin's car, causing it to break down.

The Approaching Storm (2 of 6): “climate model”

Margot was like a tornado. Full of energy, uncontrollable, unstoppable, destructive and powerful.

At first, being around her was a thrilling experience, dangerously unpredictable and addictive.

But that was before she turned on Amy.

It turns out being in the path of an oncoming storm is as scary as hell.

The Approaching Storm (3 of 6): “hello boys”

"Hello boys," Margot says.

Amy sighs. It's going to be one of those nights.

Ever since Amy broke up with Brian, Margot has been trying to distract her with shenanigans.

Amy isn't in the mood. There's no point talking to Margot when she's like this, so Amy just slopes off.

The Approaching Storm (4 of 6): “red fox”

Amy is walking past the Red Fox pub when Margot whirls in from nowhere, grabbing her hair.

Before she knows what's happening Amy is on the floor. Margot's shoe on her neck.

"You left me," Margot says, her voice calm even as Amy struggles for breath. "Don't do that again."

The Approaching Storm (5 of 6): “sweet waffles”

Waffles greets her as she steps through the door.

"Sweet Waffles," Amy says crouching down to fuss her dog. "What would I do without you?"

The dog wags her tail.

A pile of letters awaits her, among them another solicitors letter warning her landlady, Margot Simmons, has started eviction proceedings.

The Approaching Storm (6 of 6): “four corners”

When Margot's car pulls into The Four Corners car park Amy ducks into the kitchen, telling Katie to say she's out.

Katie raises an eyebrow but says nothing.

"She's gone," Katie says, five minutes later. "There's something extremely disagreeable about her."

"You don't know the half of it," Amy sighs.

These fifty-word stories were written using the six @freewritehouse freewrite prompts @mariannewest gave us this week (see her weekend freewrite single prompt post. Check out her Three Prompt challenge for more weekend Freewrite fun!
These are the 101st to 106th fifty-word stories in the Humpbuckle Tales series. You can find all the tales reblogged on the @humpbuckletales account.

These six stories are part of the Humpbuckle Tales series I am writing. Each tale is 50 words long. They can be read individually but when read together they make up a much bigger story. The 6 weekend freewrite stories are an obvious example of this because you can see that one follows on from another. The other tales might not be so obvious as they are sometimes set a few decades earlier or later than the others.

There are author readings available of the first 22 Humpbuckle Tales on the Humpbuckle Tales YouTube Channel or you can listen to the Humpbuckle Tales podcast.

On Hive, you can find the first 10 tales read here, and Humpbuckle Tales 11-22 are read here
