It excites me to share with you all this book I just finished reading last week, although it took me one month and a few weeks to finish this book because of my busy schedule. Hello, book lovers. My name is Fashtioluwa, and I welcome you to my blog.

Without many spoilers, the Greenmantle is a book packed with suspense, action, history and patriotism. The book contains 22 chapter which chapter complimenting itself for the next chapter. The story is about a man (Richard Hannay) that was sent to another country as a spy to discover a secret code which was going to be used to stop a war. Hannay investigates the rumors, following a clue left by Bullivant’s son, a spy recently killed in the region, along with Sandy and American agent John Blenkiron, Hannay heads to Constantinople.

At first, henry wanted to refuse the mission because he was just recovering from a mission he just got back from, but the British intelligence has received intelligence about a secret plan called "Greenmantle" that could tip the balance of power in favor of the Central Powers. Due to his leadership in the previous mission, he was invited by Bullivant who was in the British military intelligent. Sir Bullivant son was the one on the mission to discover this secret that could change the secret from the Germans but he was discovered and killed. Before his death, he was able to send a code message to the British intelligence which they were unable to decrypt full.

This is where henry comes in, Sir Bullivant actually told his he wouldn't resent him if he refuses the mission because there is no guaranty that he would return back to his country or if caught, there wouldn't be a rescue team coming to save him. As Henry embarked in his journey, he discovered the secret was a plan called Greenmantle.

Hannay travels deeper into the mystery of Greenmantle, he faces numerous challenges and dangers, including treacherous and cold mountains, enemy agents, and betrayal from unexpected quarters. Along the journey, he forms alliances with people who he never expected to be his alliance all in the name to survive, people like John Blenkiron and Mary Lamington.

As the story goes on, Hannay uncovers that Greenmantle's plot is even more audacious and extensive than previously thought. It entails a dangerous plan to cause unrest in the Middle East to make the British focus their attention to the Middle East and clear a path for a German triumph in the war. With the clock ticking, Hannay is compelled to act swiftly to foil Greenmantle's plans and avert the disaster.

The book is an amazing book to read, with different emotions embedded with words in different chapter. This is a book that has had many recommendation.

Greenmantle was a huge bestseller when it was published n 1916, and was admired by readers as disverse as Robert Baden-Powell, Alfred Hitchrock and the Russian Royal Family. The astonishingly prescient and griping story of danger and adventure has stood the test of time.

The book is an amazing book to read, and I recommend it for all. When you start, you wouldn't want to stop, it more like reading and watching Mission Impossible at same time.

Suspense makes me read a book in the shortest possible time since I would love to know what will happen in the end without spoilers of jumping to the last page in search of a happy ending.

I've read a few of Buchan's books. Some of them have aged better than others, with The 39 Steps remaining a very enjoyable read. I have Greenmantle on the shelf but haven't yet got round to reading it.
