Snowferno

What was dubbed as a snow inferno in the southern press, didn't warrant being newsworthy in the north. I was quite excited for the heavy snowfall that blessed this earth for a full 24 hours and when it was at it's best (or worse, depending on who you ask) late in the evening, I headed out with my camera.

It was very hard shooting when I couldn't really see through the viewfinder as the snow melted on it immediately, the lens hood was gathering the swirling snow and it was really dark other than under the streetlights, but I thoroughly enjoyed the process.

There was sort of an eery feeling around and that is what inspired these shots.

Shot with the Nikon D750 and Sigma 85mm f/1.4.

These images are fantastic, quite different and show the motion in a way I’ve not seen before.

Thank you very much, I really wanted to capture the almost violent snowstorm in these.

Love the eerie feelings around this! Currentl here in Holland we are having like a rain-mageddon and there is absolutely no fun in that, while this snow.....It makes everything just different, brings everything to a halt...

I would walk around outside making shots as well, that is for sure haha

I like rainfall too, but it’s not fun to be outside getting wet.

Everyone was huddled inside for the night and then the whole neighbourhood had a workout shovelin snow all through the next day 😄

The one at the end here with the window. Somehow creates the illusion of being minature. Like a stage or a set. Very cool.

I can see the miniature effect now that you mention it, must be something about the proportions.

The lighting I think. Looks like it's lit by flashlight maybe and the shadows seem large, in a sense. Hard to describe but, there it is.

the lines and shapes you captured in the second last photo are beautiful! also having all the shots in black and withe makes me step back from what it actually is, and able to use my imagination on what I am looking at.. really like it!

I’m glad to hear that is the picture that caught your attention and imagination, it was the picture I headed out for initially after looking at the snow ridge from the window.

Your shots are beautiful. Its like an eerie version of a winter wonderland. Its peaceful but its dark at the same time. I love it. Got a lot of imaginations from it! <3

Light or the lack of it really does the most for the mood. Now the same scenery is kinda grey white and calm. Thank you for your comment!

But that's the beauty right there. The lack of something turns it into something beautiful. 😅<3 awesome work and your welcome! <3 Looking forward on seeing more of your amazing photos.
