North Light

Self portraits once every blue moon.

North light is the light painters and portrait makers have used for centuries and with good reason.

I finally dragged a studio backdrop up onto the attic and hoist it up to the rafters. The windows at one end of the house point to north-west thus giving the most beautiful light to shoot with. It’ll change within the year and in the summertime I believe it will get some straight sunlight late in the afternoon or evening but that will be very beautiful too.

The conditions up in the attic are almost like being outside, sans wind and rain but the temperature will mostly follow that of the outside. Today it was -1 degrees Centigrade so I was quite cold while trying to take these portraits. I won’t be using this space much before the springtime but it will be great for the odd portrait while wearing a thick coat.
