How Did We Get Here?

I just can not wrap my head around why just yesterday May 29, which happens to be the swearing-in of our newly elected governments and presidential officials today, we woke up to the sad and devastating news of an increase in the price of fuel and even scarcity of fuel.
To worsen the whole situation, we also have a scarcity of transport buses because many drivers do not want to buy such high prices and at the end of the day, not see their profit.
They all decided to go back to their various homes instead of buying such outrageous fuel prices and passengers will not be willing to pay the transportation fare asked of them which I know is very true.
So, you wake up in the morning with a plan of how your day is going to look only to be standing at the bus station for an hour or more because buses or tricycles are not forthcoming, and even the ones that are coming are giving you an outrageous amount for even a short distance.
For those of us who decide to pay such an amount of money because of our plans for the day, we were met with traffic, we couldn't beat the traffic as we earlier anticipated.
Sitting in the bus or tricycle for another 45 minutes with no way out of that exact spot makes it more frustrating than we had expected because no one woke up this morning to be stuck in traffic or paying higher than they paid just yesterday.

We witness a lot of banter between the driver and the passenger when it is time for them to alight in their designated places, because they weren't informed of the increase in fuel price, they expected to pay the same amount of money to the driver only for him to refuse to get the money because it is below the transportation amount.
While some drivers will consider and get the money, others make a fuss out of it and end up delaying many of us who are yet to get to our destination.
Many of us would join to beg the driver just in case the person had budgeted their transport fare for today and did not go out with extra cash for transport, others will take the pains of getting off the bus to join a moving bus in case there is any at the moment.
Before we can finally move from such a scene and forget such an incident ever happened this beautiful morning it takes many of us wondering how on earth did we get here?
The whole situation is draining and devastating, many workers are going to be the ones to face this outrageous upcoming development.
I bought a liter of fuel NGN6000. I couldnt believe it, but i had no option. I either buy at that high rate of stay offline and not work. It was hard but i bought fuel at such a high price. Frustrating.

The evils of government overreach and strangulation of the people. They are doing this on purpose and I think it was aptly timed to coincide with the new administration. It’s very frustrating that common people are caught in the middle of the foolishness.
You are indeed correct in your words, a friend of mine told me this just yesterday while we were discussing the whole shenanigans and it is devastating that the common people are the ones affected more.
