NAIJA BANKS AND THEIR WAHALA (PROBLEM)

What a lovely topic from #hivenaija, you can never be in Nigeria and never have an encounter with all these banks, I had a terrible bank experience last month.

Last month I took my ATM card to withdraw from a POS machine, the first time the POS machine declined my card, and the guy tried the second time same thing tried again, the same vocabulary, so I collected my ATM card and went home that day.

The following day I went to the bank (Access Bank) to complain about the issue I encountered with my ATM card, I waited for about five good hours from 10 am-3 pm without being attended to, I was pissed at first because everywhere was filled up, people choke for bank that day.

The following day I went again because there was no foodstuff in my house that period, I needed to buy food and some groceries for the house, I got to the bank very early with the hope that I will leave early too, we were on the queue while some were seated so when one person stand another person will occupy the seat, like that.

It got to my turn and I the customer care representative called the next person, I quickly rushed to her front to make a complaint about what I encountered with my card and she checked her system and said I needed to upgrade my account, that the bank willingly blocked the account so that I can upgrade it, so she said I should go and bring my NEPA bill for that month with my Identity card, I was furious because my house was a bit far from the bank and the time is running fast, there is no how I can go home and come back that day, I was there with my Identity card but this woman refused to attend to me until I bring my NEPA bill.

I left the bank angrily that day, there is no how I can buy foodstuffs and the rest, the next morning I went back to the bank with my NEPA bill and it was on Friday, so I waited for my turn for almost three hours before I was attended to, I got to the customer service representative and she said she is going on a break when it finally reaches my turn, this woman left for break and came back after 30minutes, people were complaining about her attitude but I neglected her behavior, all I wanted was to leave the bank and move to the market.

She finally came back after 30 minutes of break and check my NEPA bill with my Identity card, she then said my name is not correct on my BVN, that they make a mistake and she can not upgrade the account until I rectify it, she said I should go to court and get my affidavit done, then go to the newspaper company to publish it, then I will bring it back before they can upgrade the account for me, at the point my elastic limit has exceeded normal, I stood up and shouted at her, I said you attended to me the first time I came, you did not see that my name is not correct, the second time I came same thing and you are always with your system checking rubbish.

At this point I was furious, I wanted to slap the lady but people were just calming me, It was so frustrating with all these banks in Nigeria, they can purposely delay you and find fault in nothing, I requested that I need to close down the account because the stress is too much, I was shouting that they should give me my money and close down the rubbish account, then the manager came and ask what happened, I explained to the man and he checked the lady system and see that it was my middle name that has fault instead of EUNICE it was written as ENUICE then the man said since my first name and surname are correct that she should attend to me.

I did not leave the bank until I see that she has upgraded the account, I promise to close down the account but the manager said it is not up to that and said I should not close it, I was attended to that day despite the time is far gone, I waited till my ATM started working.

This is my entry for this week's prompt of #hivenaija. Thank you all for your support and comments, it means a lot to me

These bank guys eeh, especially those ones ath the customer care desks, they all do like they've got no Emotions at all

They can be so mean when they are doing rubbish and still insist.....no human consideration at all.

When it's finally ones turn after all the wait, they will just dismiss you low you don't know what you came for.

I guess it's only shouts that works for them honestly

My dear, they see themselves as a mini-god, they do frustrate people and think they are doing the best, shouting is one of the best techniques someone can use with them. Thank you for your support

Seeing ourselves as mini-god because of our position is something very bad and we keep doing it.... It's very bad, I really hope Nigerians will get passed this behaviour.

If you allow Nigeria banks they will frustrate you and stressed the hell out of you even makes you look like a stupid person, as if you does not know what you are doing anymore. I love the fact that you shouted to the extent the manager came out🤝 if you are too gentle for Nigeria banks they will ride on you 😀

Can you see the extent of her stupidity, it is so frustrating begging for your hard earn money

They just brought out the devil in you 😂😂😂.
So if you were dying of hunger, they would have still expected you to go to court and do the affidavit, then publish it in the newspaper before they will upgrade the account.
In as much as it's necessary to ensure that one's name is spelt correctly, the lady should have told you earlier and not after you have made countless visits to the bank.
