My newest knife and two of my first knives
I purchased a new knife. One I may need to trust my life to and so I splurged a bit. After telling you about k-new k-nifey, I'll show you my first outdoors knife: a fixed blade and a Swiss army knife.
Here's the new knife in its leather sheath. Very classic looking.
And, with the retention cover open... It's a modern handled pukko style with an exposed full tang. Some people will recognise the knife already. This is quite a famous knife and for good reason.
Yes! It's a Morakniv Garberg in stainless steel. A perfect choice since you're never far from the sea in New Zealand. It has Sandi grind with a secondary bevel for strength. The spine is 90 degrees for scraping tasks. The blade pretty thick too.
And, with the welcoming of a new arrival, it's a great time to recap two of my knife "firsts".
This is my first outdoors fixed blade: Mora Companion in stainless steel. I purchased this from the same shop where I got the Garberg from. Back then I was thinking about getting into the outdoors but had little gear. I purchased the cheap companion and a stainless steel mug for cooking in.
This is my first folding knife. It's a Victorinox Swiss Army folding knife of some description. You can see it is in a bad state or repair.
And here it is folded out. The scales are missing, the corkscrew is snapped off and the tip of the curved blade is broken off. When I was about 7 or so, my grandparents ran a foster home in Mt. Albert, Auckland. I was visiting them and one of the kids was given this knife as a gift by, I think, their dad. I think the kid took their frustrations out on the knife and they broke it within days as you see it here. I then asked for and was given the knife. I might have traded for it but I can't recall. I don't remember that kid's name and I never saw them again.
The rust is my fault - I should take better care of it. This knife has been my trusty blade for decades until I become well off enough to buy models that suit me better.
Welcome to the family baby Garberg!
I recently posted about my knife sharpening gear, which you can read about here

Nice! I got a couple Mora's myself. They're good knives!
Just picked me up a Tops MSF. That scandi grind is awesome for general purpose.

That TOPS looks awesome. Canvas micarta scales, liner lock and a good flip open design. Hmmm something for my wish list.
