My baby's first fall

avatar

It is high time I officially introduce my son to you all because he is all I write about these days, well you would not blame me, would you? I spend 24/7 With him so if there is anything to write about my day expect that 80% of the time it is all about him.

So instead of calling him baby let me officially introduce my son.

His name is LEROY meaning THE KING...

I wonder if he wasn't given Leroy what else would we have called him, it's just perfect 👌 MY ROY

Back to the main issue that gave me a big out-of-the-body experience..baby Roy fell off my couch. I hear stories of how it is a norm that during pregnancy, pregnant women must fall that it's the way things are and nothing happens to the child, well I told my antenatal partner who was giving me this story that I wasn't going to fall for any reason that only careless walking would cause a fall and all I had to do was watch my step and walk gently....and yes I did it, in my 9months of pregnancy, not a fall.

The same person also told me about your baby falling that it was unavoidable...at this point, you could tell she is a big talker we both just had our first child and but she makes it seem like she was the custodian of motherhood knowledge 😄.

Anyways I told her again if I didn't fall all through pregnancy why will I let my child fall?
I would be careful and protective of him I said.
I was careful, I was protective but yes he fell.

He was barely 3month. About 2month and 3 weeks I had just finished feeding him and he slept right there on the couch in my living room. He looked so peaceful sleeping that I didn't want to pick him up to his bed. And I was so tired needed a nap too.

Luckily my husband was at home so he encouraged me to go and sleep that he would watch the baby, besides he had some the work to do so he would watch him while he works from home

Joyfully I had my bath and took a long nap one hour into my nap I hear my husband running towards my room I jumped up and saw him holding the baby weirdly, and his eyes so red and breathing so fast and the baby literally smiling but sweating profusely

I had to ask what happened you look scared?

He replied
“ I woke up to see our baby on the floor faces down did you drop him on the floor”

I laughed so hard felt like a joke
Why? why will I drop my baby on the cold tiles?

He said he was serious, that he dozed off just for a minute and open his eyes to see the baby on the floor, sleeping...

I jumped up from my bed, took my baby, and checked everywhere for pain or bruises but none.

I picked up my phone and checked google and I read that I should check his hands and legs, his pupils in his eyes, if he is still sleepy I checked.I still wanted to believe it was a prank but my husband was so sorry, I haven't seen him feel so bad about something in a long time then I knew it was serious.

My baby has his first fall, no tear, no injury or bruise, and no cry. I had to try to fall off the couch myself and I felt it... It wasn't funny it was a miracle...

I called my mum and she told me her experience with me and my sister and said

Don't worry there will be more falls and this time it would be in front of me” advised I don't feel guilty about it or blame my husband for it well I kinda let it go about a week after...

But I learned a few things that I would never take for granted

  1. Even when your child is not rolling over yet assume he is and ensure he/she is well guarded on all sides to avoid a fall
  2. Have your eye on your child at all times
  3. One second is more than enough for anything to happen to anyone. Just in one blink
  4. As long as the child is physically alright even after seeing a doctor, you have to stop worrying and know that you are not a bad mother, these things happen

I understand now that I have to prepare for anything and everything but I just hope it doesn’t get worst than this I just have to be vigilant and careful. A smile after a fall is exactly what I need.

Please tell me how did you handle your babies first fall? And when was it?
