Hello dear friends, I hope you are feeling great, we are closing one more week of this year and we are still working on our growth. Today I want to share with you a topic that I have been working on for many years. As a child I was very overprotected by my mom; I was the spoiled of the house for being the youngest and the only boy, this led me to be paid extra attention and deprived me of several things, mind you, with this I do not mean that I had a bad childhood, on the contrary, I am happy to say today that I could burn that stage in a great way, however there were things in my upbringing that made me quite introverted; a bad thing that many people go through and when we suffer from it in adulthood it becomes worse. That's why I want to share with you how I have been overcoming it with time and the benefits it has brought me.

Despite being an introvert I used to be very social, it's kind of contradictory, but if I have managed to forge many friendships throughout life is because I like to talk a lot, the detail is that a lot of those friendships I started to deal with through chat, so when we shared in person I already felt confident and was super open to show my personality as is. However, when it was a social gathering with strangers, even if there was just one or two friends, I was there, I didn't move, I didn't speak, it was very difficult for me and for those who suffer from that, they know how ugly it is.

Comments like: "You don't speak, if you are quiet, you have to spoon your words out, you seem mute."; all of them fall very badly on us because deep down we know that we are a lorito but that in public we find it hard to open up. How many of you, when you are alone, are not all lecturers that even go crazy for what you can say?, I am one of them, sometimes I say "vergaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa " hahahaha.

Unfortunately for introverted people many doors are closed to us, that's why with time I decided to change and take that step forward. The main cause of this is insecurity, so the first thing to do is to raise that self-esteem, be clear that we are people with many talents and abilities, no one is above us and we have the necessary bases to overcome any challenge, after being clear I went to the following....

What did I do?

I don't want to make this post in a therapeutic way, what I will do is to comment the steps I have followed to grow in this aspect.

Who has not heard the phrase... "Whoever is afraid of being born should not be born.", here in Venezuela we accompany it with another quite colloquial "A mother's pus##y" hahaha. Its implementation is inclined to justify mostly the blunders we make in our lives, but this time is the second thing I did after raising my self-esteem, I knew I had to face that fear head on so I took the challenge and thanks to God I have been winning the battle. After being aware and being clear that I had already boarded that boat to sail an unknown sea for me, I did the following:

1-

Whether you are introverted or extroverted, you always have a group of friends that bring out your social and clownish side. I have always liked to study even though I am not always the most dedicated, I love to do research and analysis; so one day I started to talk about certain things that we had never talked about among friends, they were unknown topics for them but that helped me to be the focus of the conversation, obviously my legs trembled when they looked at me with extra attention, but that helped me to get used to it. I remember that as time went by I also went to my niece's school to make presentations on some topics and do some dynamics, this was very powerful because even though they were children it was already an audience I had to attend to.

2-

There was another thing that helped me a lot and maybe it could be what impacted me the most in that development. At the beginning it was very difficult for me to participate in the oral evaluations, but later on, even though I was forced to do so and I was embarrassed, I did not mind any debate or presentation, there I was, raising my hand first and asking for questions after a presentation, I knew I had to make myself uncomfortable and look for a way to make all this become a normal part of my daily life.

3-
One of the things that characterizes us Latinos is how confident and talkative we are, that's why looking to talk to someone anywhere is something very normal. I tell you that I was shy until I asked for the bus stop and many times I preferred to pass it to someone before saying Stop, I am not very loud but I am quite manly, in those moments even the rooster was leaving me, imagine you; so I started to talk on the bus, in the queues, in the squares, I approached people and even to ask the time, I looked them in the eyes and if it was to make conversation I did it, I forced myself to do it, it was part of the process.

4-

Since I left the University I have almost always worked with the public and sometimes this is not so complicated because when we talk to people who are at our level it is not very difficult, but when we talk to people who are at a higher level in the professional area, it is a little more difficult. I was fortunate that since I graduated I have worked with people with a very high professional profile, but in my last job it was the most complicated test in this aspect. I was a purchasing and warehouse coordinator in a restaurant, so I had to maintain continuous contact with suppliers, most of whom were older than me and worked for large companies. Being able to forge a good affinity and, I dare say, even friendship with them was gratifying. Today I feel much more confident than when I was a teenager, I will not say that I still do not feel some sorrow or fear when I have to face something like that, it would be a lie on my part, but I know that at least I have the courage to take that step forward even if I fall.

I know perfectly well what it feels like to suffer from shyness, I also know perfectly well what it feels like to overcome it and it is great. My great advice for people who are in that hole and want to get out of it is to take that step, be uncomfortable, get out of your comfort zone and do not be afraid of falling; do not think you will do it perfectly at the beginning, you will get stuck and many times you will say nonsense, but do it, do not be ashamed, do not be afraid to get out of there, rather be afraid to continue and lose many opportunities. Also read, read a lot, do not cross your arms or legs, this reinforces insecurity. When you feel anxious, stop for a moment, breathe and try again, it is a matter of that, of going in again; it is not going to be easy, I dare to say that it is one of the toughest wars a person can go through, but it is all part of life. Another one could and I said one day that I could, so I did, so you can too, at least I trust you, do it too!.
