My Funny Blackout Curtain

avatar

It's been ages since my last sewing post. It's like I have Alzheimer's disease as I can't even remember what it was and I know I have said this at my last post as well. I needed to look it up and it was the Denim Mat With Pockets on the 1st of November.

Blackout Curtain.jpg

Anyway, today I'm back with a funny project that I have just finished. This is a funny blackout curtain that I needed for some time and have been procrastinating it till now.

20221206_183344a.jpg

I have a door with a glass window, which I hate, but I'm also not in the mood to start changing doors and make a construction site out of my apartment. So for the moment, this is the best and the cheapest solution.

20221206_100507a.jpg

I was thinking what material I should use and had a look at my stash, here I could only find boring ones. So I decided to create a funny one, from scratch. Denim is a good one as it's not letting the light out for sure, but there are disadvantages as well, like stretched out parts, which can give you a headache.

So I had a pair of jeans, I got it from a family member as they know every piece can be recycled, so there's no throwing denim away in my family. As you can see, it's a nice piece, but ...

20221206_102112a.jpg

... it's cracked nod not in a fashionable way.

20221206_102600a.jpg

For me, working with bits and pieces is a fun game, similar to a puzzle and this was one such project. Although I had the whole pair to work with, the fact that at the knees the material was stretched out badly, made my job harder.

20221206_135255a.jpg

After some thinking, planning and executing, I got this piece, which started to look nice, but it was still not big enough. I tried to keep as many original sewing in it, would have loved to keep the double line too, but unfortunately was not possible as I wanted it.

20221206_152641a.jpg

But after some thinking, I was still able to add a part of it. For me, the more pieces, the better as at least it's not boring.

20221206_162140a.jpg

The next challenge was to secure the two sides, from stretching out more. As this is an upcycling project, I found this (half) sipper in my sewing stash, which I recuperated from somewhere and seemed like a good way to use it for stopping stretching out.

20221206_174351a.jpg

I've always loved brown with this color of denim, so I think it looks good.

20221206_183344a.jpg

While I was putting the pieces together, was thinking how to decorate it to not look so plain and simple. At the beginning I had some crazy ideas, but then the best solution was to keep it simple, add two pockets in which I could put anything I want.

20221206_182557a.jpg

This cutie got the left pocket.

20221206_182610a.jpg

And this one got the right pocket.

So the jeans is recycled, the door glass has a blackout curtain and I'm happy as the project was a lot or fun and relaxing as well. Even though I've learnt sewing from YouTube and I can't tell I know to sew, I love it. It makes me relax and has some benefits as well. After charts, TA and all the sh*t that comes with crypto, a day like this is a blessing. I'm all for recycling, giving things a second life whenever I can.

I loved the curtain, it's very cute and easy to make. I'll show it to my grandma since she likes to create things like this. Thanks for sharing

It looks so cute @erikah. I never thought you could make curtains out of pants. I had some old pants too. I'll ask my mom if we can use them, maybe she'll agree with you.

Thank you! You can use denim for a bunch of things. I hope your mom will be ok and can use your old pants. Show us the results :)

Great this idea, I never really thought of blues jeans as a curtain, but it turned out very nice for you. I really like the teddy ornaments on each pocket, they look very lovely.

I still sew very little, but I would like to try something like this, if I dare I already have this post as a model.

Thank you for sharing this idea 👊✨💫🌞🙂🤗🙏🏻🙏🏻

Thank you! The truth is, you need to have the courage to start and the rest goes by itself. Don't have to be afraid of it 😀

This is just sooo cute @erikah, very creative!
I used to love sewing stuff for decor but my sewing machine has given up the ghost, will not pick up stitches from the bobbin. I really need to take it in for repairs as it's a good machine. Lovely project!

Thank you dear @lizelle. I can understand what it feels like having your sewing machine broken. I hope mine can resist a bit longer as it was a second hand gift from Germany. I hope you can fix yours and start creating as it's a lot of fun. I with I could have more free time.

Yep, and once it's fixed I'll need to find a place where I can buy more time, a very scarce commodity not so😜

I have a whole monkey collection 😏

The cutie on the left I bought this summer at a thrift shop and the other, with the red and white scarf was a gift from Germany.

what erikah shows makes me think to be even more creative when my boredom arrives,

@erikah: I've read the beginner's guide, though I'm also asking here to make it clearer, because erikah is my teacher,My friend's account @yahli There is no increase at all, in my opinion he has tried hard to improve his account, both in terms of posts or something else,But still the account doesn't have any increase, I really want to help but I don't know how,
Please provide a solution,Forgive me for asking in the comments of erikah,
Thank you very much.

He's been here for less than 2 months. Hive is not a get rich quick place. The solution is to be patient and keep working hard.

It's amazing how beautiful you transformed the window and door even when you don't have strength to change them. Placing little fancy designs made an attractive pocket. I do like sewing but rather sew I work in the garden.

Thank you! Well, with a little imagination, you can create a lot. I sew only occasionally because I don't have much time, unfortunately.

In all this time reading this community I have seen any number of jean projects: bags made of jean, pencil cases made of jeans, cushions made of jeans, jeans made of jeans... but never a curtain made of jean.

I'm glad you found a good way to take advantage of this fabric and fixed the issue with your window. Useful projects are the best, and this one turned out great. Plus it's adorned with those little guys, which makes it even better ❣️.

You know what they say? Bring something that no one has 😁 Trust me, I had no idea no one has posted such a thing, but I'm glad I did.

The curtain is perfect for the job by the way. Thank you for the nice words 😃
