Ella Schön And Elon Musk

Ella Schön is a German drama/comedy series, that many would consider annoying and maybe boring as well, but not me. I must admit it's a very strange series, but for me it has a lot to say and I had a lot to learn from it, that's why I think it worth writing about it.

Ella, Asperger's autist, prospective lawyer, analytical and ruthlessly honest. The other: Christina, single parent, cafe owner, chaotic and intuitive. The lives of both are linked by a fate, they share the house and everyday life. "Ella Schön" tells the unusual story of two unequal people who enrich the life of the fish countries on the Baltic Sea in very different ways in a warm and humorous way. source

Plot

Unfortunately, the plot on IMBD is not much, but I'm going to try to share with you in a few words, what this series is about.

Ella Schön has a huge surprise when she tries to sell the house her late husband owned. She has to find out her husband has lived a double life and had another family, kids included. Such news would have been devastating for everyone, but Ella Schön has Asperger and she's different.

I must admit, this was the first time I've heard about Asperger and had to look it up to understand better what it means.

Asperger syndrome (AS), also known as Asperger's, was the name of a neurodevelopmental disorder no longer recognised as a diagnosis in itself, having been merged into autism spectrum disorder (ASD). It was characterized by significant difficulties in social interaction and nonverbal communication, along with restricted and repetitive patterns of behaviour and interests. It was said to differ from other diagnoses that were merged into ASD by relatively unimpaired language and intelligence. The syndrome was named after the Austrian pediatrician Hans Asperger, who, in 1944, described children in his care who struggled to form friendships, did not understand others' gestures or feelings, engaged in one-sided conversations about their favourite interests, and were clumsy.source

After finding out about her husband's secret past, Ella has to make a few difficult decisions in order to move things forward.

Now let's be honest. Anyone in Ella's situation would have suffered a shock as finding out you were not the only one in your best half's life is never easy. Finding out that the other woman was able to give your husband what you couldn't makes things more heartbreaking. Ella on the other hand, due to her Asperger disease, lacks feelings or let's say she doesn't have the same feelings in such a situation others have.

What I Loved About The Series

Usually us, humans are highly influenced by feelings, which makes us not think rationally sometimes, make hasty decisions and horrible mistakes we may regret later. Mistakes sometimes can be corrected, but there are situations in which there's no second chance or make things right.

How many times have you been in a situation, where your mind was telling you what's the right thing to do and your heart was telling you otherwise? Have you listened to your heart or your brain?

This series clearly shows how much emotions mean and how you can handle things, when there are no emotions involved.

Obviously we have to keep in mind that this is a TV series, where everything is possible, opposite to real life. I'm not sure if this is how a person with Asperger syndrome reacts to things or behave as I don't know anyone having it.

While hosting Saturday Night Live in May 2021, Musk stated that he has Asperger syndrome. source

I need to mention that first I've seen the series and only after came across the information according to which Elon Musk also has Asperger syndrome. What does that man? I have no idea to be honest. I suppose the disease does not manifest in the same way for everyone though.

One thing that may be totally irrelevant, but I's like to mention it was Ella's way to not deviate from order and routine. Autistic people like routine and Ella had that in her life too. Everything had to be in perfect order. She had a dress code too, that was not dependent on the situation. You will see her riding the bike with high heels and wearing the same style of pants every day as she bough 7 of them.

What I've Learnt From The Series

She's been in situations that would have crashed everyone and she kept her cool, kept her (non existent) emotions out of the decision making and resolved every situation. I remember this quite often and try to implement it in real life, even though nothing is as simple as in the movies. However, controlling your emotions in key moments can be the key to success, so with a little practice, I think we can get better at it.

I think I've seen 3 seasons and am looking forward to seeing the next two as well.

Heart! Then later the brain can correct. If can 😂

Maybe I have to be infected somehow by Asperger syndrome :D

Lol, I know it's not an easy task and we get it wrong 9 times out of 10 😂
It's easier said then done, but this series was good to make me think twice. Then at the first occasion I will obviously forget about Ella Schön and listen to my heart 🤣
