Trama - Plot

La historia está contada en el pasado (año 2022), donde vemos al famoso científico Albert Wesker (Lance Reddick) mudarse a la Nueva Raccoon City con sus dos hijas, después de los sucesos ocurridos en el año 1998 de los que ya no quedan vestigios; e intercala con el presente (año 2036), donde vemos el mundo después de que el virus se saliera de control de nuevo (por vez 1 millón 🤪) y no pudiera ser contenido como la última vez.

The story is told in the past (year 2022), where we see the famous scientist Albert Wesker (Lance Reddick) moving to the New Raccoon City with his two daughters, after the events that happened in the year 1998 of which there are no traces left; and intercut with the present (year 2036), where we see the world after the virus got out of control again (for the 1 millionth time 🤪) and could not be contained like the last time.

En el pasado la historia se centra en las dos hermanas de 14 años, mellizas pero de madres diferentes, Jade (Tamara Smart) y Billie (Siena Agudong) Wesker. Y nos van mostrando cómo descubren todo este lío de Umbrella, las mentiras de su padre con respecto a su creación, la ciudad y los monstruos que esconde. Digamos el inicio del apocalipsis.

In the past the story focuses on the two 14-year-old sisters, twins but from different mothers, Jade (Tamara Smart) and Billie (Siena Agudong) Wesker. And they show us how they discover all this mess of Umbrella, the lies of his father regarding its creation, the city and the monsters it hides. Let's say the beginning of the apocalypse.

La CEO de Umbrella, Evelyn Marcus (Paola Núñez), quiere lanzar una droga al mercado llamada Alegría que es para tratar la depresión, ansiedad y mejorar el ánimo. Esta droga está hecha con un porcentaje del famoso Virus-T.
Albert Wesker está en contra de que esto suceda porque, aparte de lo ocurrido en el pasado, hubo otro incidente en Tijuana hace poco que dejó muertos, aunque sí pudieron contener la situación esa vez.

Umbrella's CEO, Evelyn Marcus (Paola Núñez), wants to bring a drug to market called Alegria which is to treat depression, anxiety and improve mood. This drug is made with a percentage of the famous T-Virus.
Albert Wesker is against this happening because, aside from what happened in the past, there was another incident in Tijuana recently that left people dead, although they were able to contain the situation that time.

En el presente vemos a una Jade adulta (Ella Ballinska) que está tratando de estudiar a los zombies, a los que llama "ceros", es decir, los primeros en convertirse. Para tratar de buscar una forma de controlarlos porque, según ella, los humanos van a tener que aprender a convivir con estos seres (pienso que un tiro en la cabeza soluciona más rápido el asunto, pero bueno, no soy la experta aquí).

In the present we see an adult Jade (Ella Ballinska) who is trying to study the zombies, which she calls "zeros", that is, the first to convert. To try to find a way to control them because, according to her, humans are going to have to learn to coexist with these beings (I think a shot in the head solves the issue faster, but well, I'm not the expert here).

Jade vive con un grupo de supervivientes y, al parecer, tiene un esposo y una hija pequeña. Pero hace 6 meses que está en esta tarea de estudiar a los zombies lejos de todos.
La cosa se sale de control y termina capturada por un grupo de rebeldes que la vende a Umbrella. Ahí sabemos que está corporación está a la caza de Jade, pero no vemos rastros de su hermana, Billie, aunque sí se la menciona.
¿Qué habrá pasado?

Jade lives with a group of survivors and apparently has a husband and a young daughter. But she has been on this task of studying zombies away from everyone for 6 months.
Things get out of control and she ends up captured by a group of rebels who sell her to Umbrella. There we learn that this corporation is hunting for Jade, but we see no trace of her sister, Billie, although she is mentioned.
What could have happened?

A medida que avance la historia iremos viendo cómo confluyen ambos tiempos.

As the story progresses, we will see how the two times converge.

Opinión personal - Personal opinion

Veamos, que de Resident Evil solo tiene el nombre, después nada. No me gustó eso. Hay algunos guiños interesantes a los videojuegos, sobre todo en la parte del pasado. Me gustó mucho más esta parte que la otra.

Let's see, Resident Evil only has the name, then nothing. I didn't like that. There are some interesting nods to video games, especially in the part about the past. I liked this part much more than the other.

Más allá de este intento de RE la serie quizá sí tenga elementos buenos que te terminan atrapando, como una serie más de apocalipsis zombie. Aunque no se centraron mucho en estos tampoco. Pero me gustó su caracterización y que no parecieran zombies lentos y poco aterradores. También me gustó la aparición de los lickers y el perro Doberman infectado. Y qué sería de una adaptación de RE si no mostrarán a Lisa (?

Beyond this attempt at RE the series perhaps does have some good elements that end up grabbing you, as more of a zombie apocalypse series. Although they didn't focus much on these either. But I did like their characterization and that they didn't seem like slow and not very scary zombies. I also liked the appearance of the lickers and the infected Doberman dog. And what would an RE adaptation be if they didn't show Lisa (?

Cuando recién arranque a verla el primer pensamiento que se me vino a la mente fue "¿pero qué estoy viendo?". Sin embargo, de nuevo me encontré diciendo que a lo mejor mejoraba, y al final la termine viendo toda.

When I first started watching it, the first thought that came to my mind was "what am I watching? However, again I found myself saying that maybe it would get better, and in the end I ended up watching the whole thing.

Va a sonar raro, pero me gustó y no me gustó jajaja. Sí, se me hizo entretenida, y, como ya dije, tiene cosas interesantes. Pero es otra decepción, otra adaptación de esta franquicia que promete ser fiel a los videojuegos y ni se les acerca.

It's going to sound weird, but I liked it and I didn't like it hahaha. Yes, I found it entertaining, and, as I said, it has some interesting stuff. But it's another disappointment, another adaptation of this franchise that promises to be faithful to the videogames and doesn't even come close.

¿Será tan difícil hacer una adaptación que siga la misma línea de los juegos?

Se tomaron muchísimas libertades con esta serie. Hicieron lo que quisieron y pusieron un par de guiños para los nostálgicos, pero ahí se quedó.

They took a lot of liberties with this series. They did what they wanted and put in a couple of winks for the nostalgic, but that's where it stayed.

Ahora está temporada terminó con un final abierto y me encuentro en la encrucijada de que no sé si quiero que la continúen o prefiero que muera aquí. Tengo sentimientos encontrados.

Now this season ended with an open ending and I'm at the crossroads of not knowing if I want it to continue or if I'd rather it die here. I have mixed feelings.

Pero bueno, si llegan a hacer una segunda temporada creo que la seguiré viendo.

But hey, if they ever make a second season I think I'll still watch it.
