On track to own nothing

So, the CPI is at 8.6%. That 10% raise earlier in the year is looking like not much. That was the cost of living adjustment. The standard annual pay raise is happening next month. Then again, giving a raise in July is a brilliant tactic by my employer to cop out of half a year's worth of raises.

On the bright side, I'm doing all right. I am annoyed with the inflated prices, but I am surviving. What's concerning is the rising housing prices in Utah.

source

According to the map, you would need to make $94K a year to afford a home in Utah. That's much higher than the $80K figure before the pandemic. Of course, there are cheaper options in certain parts of the state, but your mileage may vary. It's starting to feel like California around here.

I overheard several younger coworkers discussing moving out of the state to places where homes are more affordable. Even renting a studio to live by yourself would cost you over $1500 a month these days. That doesn't even include utilities and whatnot. I can see why some of them would even choose to live with their parents if possible.

Hell, the house my ex got for $275K back in 2019 is worth well over $500K in 2022. The market is great if you are selling. But, if you aren't downsizing or moving to a different state, that price tag doesn't mean much. You aren't winning if you aren't trading for a better deal after selling your house. Besides, a home is not that liquid anyhow.

I once thought about getting a bigger house. The better plan now might be to obtain land in central and southern Utah and throw a trailer on top of it. And maybe, I could add a house to it later. I might also consider doing some land grab in Missouri with some friends. Why Missouri? Personal reasons.

If you aren't tied down in one location like I am, there are still plenty of affordable places left in the US. Since I can't leave at the moment, I will stick to my modified plan and continue to fight against the waves.

Well, we could always get stagnation who knows. lol.

Housing is crazy, we should give building incentives.

Even getting property around here is bonkers!! I could sell my house buy a big ol’ 40 foot 5th wheel and I would be fine living in that. Plus I have the truck to tow it 😉

I could easily pull 150k is I sold… but where would I go?? Pay more for a smaller house and smaller yard? No thanks!!! I’m just going to weather the storm and see what life offers to the table. My wife want to move to Florida… Lady! I’m gonna have to deal with gators and crazy poisonous snakes now. Thanks for adding another level of danger to my job. 😂😂

Damn, accomodation is pretty expensive and as you stated except if you selling...
It's crazy how these prices skyrockets over time.

I remember visiting Texas with a friend of mine, and he was telling me about buying houses for like $5-10K in Texas, fixing them up and selling them for a lot more.

I also found some stupid cheap houses in Canada I almost bought myself just to fill with Ethereum mining equipment and cameras due to low electricity costs and relatively close (compared to Russia and other options) but I just couldn't find a cheap house and cheap electicity, I could find both just not together.

Must be some really derelict houses out there in Texas.

I’m no good at fixing those things up, so I’ll stick with the land I guess.

Watch out for the human traffickers here. You wont know it until its too late. STAY AWAY! Beware, traffickers can be women or men! They will act nice until they dont. There is human trafficking going on around this type of crypto. I have witnessed it. They literally have attempted my murder and are trying to kill me with V2K and RNM. Five years this has been happening to me, it started here, around people that are still here. Homeland security has done nothing at all, they are not here to protect us. Dont we pay them to stop shit like this? The NSA, CIA, FBI, Police and our Government has done nothing. Just like they did with the Havana Syndrome, nothing. Patriot Act my ass. The American government is completely incompetent. The NSA should be taken over by the military and contained Immediately for investigation. I bet we can get to the sources of V2K and RNM then. https://ecency.com/fyrstikken/@fairandbalanced/i-am-the-only-motherfucker-on-the-internet-pointing-to-a-direct-source-for-voice-to-skull-electronic-terrorism ..... https://ecency.com/gangstalking/@acousticpulses/electronic-terrorism-and-gaslighting--if-you-downvote-this-post-you-are-part-of-the-problem if you run into one of them you may want to immediately shoot them in the face. 187, annihilate, asphyxiate, assassinate, behead, bleed, bludgeon, boil, bomb, bone, burn, bury, butcher, cap, casket, choke, chop, club, crucify, crush, curb, decapitate, decimate, deflesh, demolish, destroy, devein, disembowel, dismember, drown, electrocute, eliminate, end, euthanize, eviscerate, execute, explode, exterminate, extinguish, finish, fry, grind, guillotine, gut, hack, hang, hit, ice, implode, incinerate, kill, liquidate, lynch, massacre, maul, microwave, mutilate, neutralize, obliterate, off, pop, poison, punnish, quarter, ruin, shank, shock, shoot, shred, skin, slay, slaughter, smoke, smother, snipe, snuff, squish, stab, strangle, stone, suffocate, suicide, SWAT, swing, terminate, torture, terrorize, whack, waste, wreck. I kind of want to move out to somewhere more affordable but that will have to wait until I am financially free. I have lived in the city area for most of my life and I don't really know if I want to stay there.

Our area still isn't too bad depending on your income and stuff like that. We have seen the price of our house increase about $75,000 over the past several years. Not that we would be selling though. There is nothing available to buy that is better than what we have. I might try to look at land, we will see.

Yeah, Michigan seems to be one of the more affordable regions.

It is depending on where you end up in the state. The West side is typically a bit more expensive than the east, but again that depends on the area. I am guessing every town has their rich neighborhoods and their more impoverished ones.

Yeah, the main population centres here in Utah are the expensive ones on average.

(Edited)

No incentive. We NEED a recession to cool things down. I wouldn't mind a deep one. S&P500 need to go down 50% from here to make things reasonable. Home prices are several factors more than they should be.

Yeah, no kidding.

But, that probably won't happen until after inflation peaks.

If I could talk my husband into leaving NY....but I can't so we are sitting on property that appreciated 20 fold since we bought it in 1974. As you say, if you are buying and selling in the same market, what's the point?

Yeah, if you aren't gonna downsize or leave the region...it's pretty pointless.
