New to the crocheting and needle work Monday community
I started crocheting just about a week ago for a school project. Yes, a school project. In school we had to decide on an activity which required a learning process, and since crocheting is so popular nowadays, but also quite expensive I decided to learn myself.
What I first bought was a hook and some cheap yarn which I would use to practice the stitches.
I saw some videos to start learning how to crochet and I quickly got frustrated. I didn’t understand many things and I would often confuse the stitches, meaning I would forget to tie one or tie a stitch two times.
Over the hours I learned that the stitches could not be very tight or very loose, and in general I went encountering many problems. I learned that there is no solution to stop these errors, you only have to practice and practice until it gets easy and looks neat.
Now I’m trying to do my first piece, a skirt. At first I wanted to buy another yarn but I thought that it would not be necessary since it was basically practice and it would probably not turn out good. However, things are going quite good, the only problem is that I don’t think I have enough yarn :/
What should I do???
That looks way better than I ever did, so buy more yarn.
Thank you! I will for sure buy more yarn
Beautiful thanks for sharing @elpatoverde
I’m glad you liked it :)
I like that yarn, it is like knitting with laces! And the knit looks very nice too, I might try it, actually.
I was really surprised when I saw how it turned out, it was literally very cheap, 2€, I really recommend it!
You don't get better at anything without trying. :-) Good for you. And what I have learned about on-line tutorials, it takes time to find the right teacher and video that works for you. We all get frustrated by what we are working on and have to start over. I sometimes put my work down when I come to a place where a made a mistake and do something else for awhile. Stitches get tighter the more frustrated you become. I always tell my knitting students, never knit when you are angry. Keep up the great work @elpatoverde! :-)
That’s absolutely true, I watched tutorial after tutorial until I found the perfect one. I’ll try and follow your advice on not knitting when I’m angry or frustrated.
Thanks!

Hello, welcome to Needlework Monday, it's so nice to have you here 😍.
I love the yarn that you've chosen, it looks so soft and is such a pretty colour.
Well done for finding out how to crochet! I only learned a year or two ago, it took me ages to get the yarn to stay on the hook!
A skirt is a nice idea, can you buy some more yarn? Maybe in a complimentary colour if the original is not available? Let us know how you get on 🙂
Yes, I will definitely look for more yarn, but I don’t know if I’ll find the same type of yarn.
Thanks!!
A skirt is an ambitious project. But after you are finished, you are going to be an expert!
Thank you!! I’ll do my best I’m not expecting it to turn out perfect
oh, you might surprise yourself :)
