La Mona: an Easter tradition you will love
La Mona is one of my favorite traditions we celebrate in Catalonia, where I live. And it’s not because of it’s religious purposes but rather for the CHOCOLATE. I would say chocolate is one my favorite things in the entire world and La Mona is all about that (and of course the celebration of Jesus resurrection)
La Mona consists on the godparents bringing a certain cake which has Easter decorations, including a lot of chocolate eggs. My family doesn’t take very seriously the part where the god parents bring la Mona, in fact this year 3 different people bought a Mona, so as you see, it doesn’t really matter who buys it.
It was heaven for me, except I’m lactose intolerant. So I got to enjoy a good part of the afternoon eating all the Monas and other treats people had brought, but of course the other part of the afternoon wasn’t as pleasant. I’ve definitely learned my lesson: control yourself in front of chocolate

Now that you bring it up, one of the Mona’s does look like fruit cake, but fortunately it wasn’t, I hate fruit cake. Chocolate is always tastier for me.
Lol, I get to have fruit cakes more during Xmas period, that to me feels like heaven.

La Mona sounds an interesting tradition and glad that although times are changing, you still observe it. I can't say no to chocolates too, in fact, I am eating a bar right now, lol! But you are right, we must not over indulge.
