Walking the Monsal Trail in Derbyshire

We usually cycle the Monsal Trail but this time we decided to walk, following the path of the old Midland Railway.

In 2011, the tunnels were renovated and opened to the public. There are about 4 tunnels on the trail. The Headstone Tunnel is my favourite at 533 yards. It feels really cold underneath so great in the summer, not so good at the moment.

The trail is very popular with all ages. There's some beautiful views along the way. Thankfully, there wasn’t any rain today so you could see for miles.

There's also a couple of cafes
that were once railway stations and a couple of cycle hire huts. There's child buggies and disabled friendly cycles to hire. It's accessible to everyone. We decided to stop off at the Refreshment Room run by the Blueberry Cafe.

We did about a 5 mile walk and then popped into another cafe as a pat on the back for doing some exercise!

Very nice autumn walk! Love the cafe at the end of the walk! Very nice idea to get some cakes! LoL

My brother won't go unless there's a cafe somewhere along the way. 😀
