Market Friday - The Unfortunate Incident at the Petrol Station

avatar
(Edited)

The day didn't start well. I called for some petrol and somewhere along the way I lost my debit card. Thankfully, I'd already paid for my petrol. Anyway, I quickly phoned up the bank to cancel my card. Unfortunately, because I hadn't got my bank details on me, the first operator got a bit tetchy with me. She put me through to someone else, who then put the phone down on me. I could have looked online for my account details but time was of the essence. I quickly dashed back home and once I got my details I cancelled the card. I then put in an online complaint. Not long afterwards, I got an apology and £30 credited to my account as compensation! Soooo....

I decided to hit the shops to do some Christmas shopping! My second mistake of the day was to invite my friend who scrutinises every little item in the shops. She wanted an ornament to put next to her fireplace. I picked out the above, but she said I was being silly. Actually, I just wanted to see her walk through town with a MAHOOSIVE cherub in her arms. She finally settled on a wooden duck .... but which duck would it be?

It was a major decision. The choices were, a duck with wellingtons on or a duck without wellingtons on. That was it. As you can see, after much procrastination, she finally chose a wellington-less duck. Why a duck needs wellingtons on anyway, is beyond me.

Browsing around the shop I spotted this sign. I really need it on my fridge door as I'm finding it to be very true....

We then went off to find food to celebrate that my friend actually made a decision. It was at this point she mentioned she might buy another duck for the other side of her fireplace. It was also at this point I got up and left .......

Haha!!! Oh, Julie! She did not! I might have gotten ip and left, but, not before I finished my soup. What kind was it?

I am glad that you got a little compensation for the rudeness. What if that were an older less wise lady than you? My mother would have freaked if she was on the other end of that. While someone is having a good time with your debit card. You don't use it as debit, right? You always put it in as a credit card purchase, even though it will come out of your checkbook?

Is your friend going back to get the duck with Wellies on?

As an aside, how much is your gas now? Ours has gone up so much in the last month! Thanks so much, you are always so much fun!

#MarketFriday has evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, even your language/languages. Along with the fact of what is normal for where you live? These are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue.

Fridays are all about the #MarketFriday Challenge! Looking to take part in it? Here is how:

Hi Denise I stopped using credit cards because I didn’t see it as real money ha ha. You can get too carried away. With my debit card, what I spend now is mine. I don't like to be in debt.

Petrol/Gas and utility bills are all going up, unfortunately. A lot of people couldn't afford to put their heating on before, so I don’t know how they will manage now. Even on full time wages people are still struggling.

The soup was tomato and butternut squash. I should have said but I was still getting over the duck saga. I think I will choose a shop with less choice next time!

I didn't mean to get a credit card, I meant to run your debit card as a credit card when processing it. It saves having to put in your PIN # and it comes out of your checkbook. I guess I am overprotective of my number. :)

I don't like debt. Everything I have is paid for, but, it wasn't always like that. When I was a young student, a credit card was awesome as long as it worked. :) That is pretty scary and one of the reasons my next house will be more self-sufficient. Solar at the very least and geothermal construction. It is the only way to go now. The gas prices are killing everyone and I feel bad for the senior citizens on a fixed income. :(

Oh! The soup sounds divine! Now, I need to look it up!

The duck saga made me laugh, even when I think about it now. LOL

I'm still recovering from it!

The one nice person at the bank set me up with a voice activation thing. If I lose my card again, I don’t have to bother with account details, it will just recognise my voice! I'm not planning to lose it though.

You clearly had fun with this post! I love your sense of humor.

As you can see, after much procrastination, she finally chose a wellington-less duck. Why a duck needs wellingtons on anyway, is beyond me.

That's a very good point! I suppose it would be cute in a children's book... but maybe not on a duck by your fireplace. No one wants wellingtons by a fireplace!

There was so many ducks with different coloured wellies on, I really thought we'd never get out the place! 😁🦆
