Market Friday - The Curious Incident of the Settee in the Night Time

(Edited)

One of my favourite books is, 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time', by Mark Haddon that I bought from a charity shop. My village has recently had its own ahem incident in the night time ....

One of my friends has had a new settee. Obviously, she had to get rid of her old one so she rang the local council who pick up unwanted items for a fee of £10.

They will pick bulky items up if they are left outside. I laughed and said I bet they will disappear before they get picked up as things go "missing". Someone will always come along and take it. Sure enough the settee disappeared leaving just the armchair. My friend didn’t mind as long as someone could make use of it.

A few days later, the son of a mutual friend was walking the family dog through the local wood when he came across my friend's settee! Youngsters tend to gather in a certain part of the wood and we think they wanted the settee to make their meeting place more comfy! It's very heavy so not sure
how they got it up there, unless they used a van.

We just had to go and see it for ourselves. I think it totally confused my friend's dog as normally he'd be sat on the settee in the house!

Someone had penned a message on the settee arm, "having this den comes with responsibility to clean it". I agree, just because you have a settee in the wood you should still have standards!

I must admit the settee comes in handy. It's very warm in the wood so it's good to take a pitstop before you carry on with your journey!

I don’t think the settee will last long when it rains.

That is funny!!! Even funnier that she went to visit it and the dog was feeling a little confused. If I want to get rid of furniture, that is all one has to do, Put it outside at night and it will be gone before morning. :)

In the woods. all I can think of is what will be crawling in it soon!

Yikes!!! Thanks so much for your hilarious outlook on life!

Thank you for participating in #MarketFriday! I appreciate the time and effort that goes into putting a post together for the challenge. It is with great pleasure that I read through and realize how much we have all tried to include things in our world that may be unique to the area. I have learned so much about the different cultures of the world, especially the small things that go unnoticed except by those looking for them. Life is interesting, wherever you are, whatever you are doing. I hope the week has found you healthy and happy, as we all look to prosper in our way of life.

It's funny because one of her neighbours didn't want to pay the council to pay to take his fridge away. He put it outside for the scrap man to pick up. During the night the motor and copper wiring has been stripped, so only the carcase is left. Scrap man doesn't want it now so it's been outside his house for a month! 😀
