Market Friday - Another Geocache Fail!
One of my hobbies is geocaching. For people who have never done it before, it is basically an outdoor activity, in which geocachers use a GPS on their mobiles, garmins etc to hide or find caches (containers) at places marked by coordinates.
I'd been out in the morning and didn't fancy going back home, as it was such a lovely day. I decided to drive to a local country park to find a geocache. According to the geocache app on my phone there are three in this area. This one is free to do but some caches you have to pay for. I think if you upgrade to premium it's a couple of pounds a month. As I'm as tight as a duck's bottom, I'm not paying! There are a lot of free caches to find, so I'm happy with that.
The GPS directed me to the wooded area. Unfortunately, this is where my phone signal did a wobble and I inadvertently found myself on the golf course. I didn't want to be hit on the head by a stray golf ball, so I quickly vacated the area.
The hint to the cache was 'baby oak'. When you are in the wood and surrounded by baby oaks, this isn't very helpful at all!
I then became the weirdo in the wood, as I scrambled about in the undergrowth trying to find a hidden cache. What must people think?
Suddenly, my phone vibrated, which means the cache is within 10 metres. By now, the branches were that low I was walking around doubled up, going round and round in circles.
I looked at the activity page on the app. This told me of other people's experiences of finding the cache. It was quite disheartening as everyone posted "easy find", yet here I was 30 minutes later! I decided to do what any mature person would do in this situation ... I had a strop, gave up and buggered off home!

Oh yeah, I used to do that with my little from Big Brothers and Big Sisters. It's definitely fun when you can figure out where it is, but super frustrating when you can't find it. I know that feeling!

Seems to be very popular in Norfolk, too. Had a go with family a while back. Some containers were no real challenge to spot, while for others we were very glad to have tall people among our group, as the containers had been left in ridiculously high places.
I'm lucky as I'm tall. I think people pinch them as well. It's good fun though.
