Coffee with a Clotted Cream Scone and Jam at the Terrace Cafe

The Whitworth Centre in the Derbyshire Dales is a Meetings and Conference venue, but the best attraction is its welcoming cafe, offering a variety of snacks, freshly cooked food, and drinks.

The cafe is set in a lovely park with gardens and lakes. It has both indoor and outdoor seating on the terrace looking out on to the park. Unfortunately, even though the sun came out briefly, it was still too wet to be sat outside. It was nice to see all the pretty daffodils, though.

My sentiments exactly!

Calling in for a cappuccino quickly escalated into us buying scones with clotted cream, blackcurrant jam with butter. They were a good ample size as well. Just as I like them. The staff were friendly and the food wasn't too expensive.

Now, here comes the difficult decision. What goes on the scone first, the jam or clotted cream? Traditionally, people from Devon put the cream on the scone first and then the jam, while Cornish people prefer jam first, then the cream. As I don't live in either area, if I had to decide, my preference is jam first and then cream. I'm not really sure people from the Midlands care that much, though. I'm certainly not that fussed. At the end of the day it all goes down the same hole!

Haha I remember reading about the cream or jam first debate on Milly's blog long ago- what an interesting thing for people to have such strong opinions on! haha

The coffee and atmosphere look great, especially with the daffodils in bloom all around! Ours just sprouted up here as well, thank goodness winter is over!

Yes, I don’t understand why people worry about these things. I just pile everything on. 😁

It's great to see sunshine in some parts of the UK, and those nature photos are stunning. It's been grey and wet here in Wiltshire.
Those scones look amazing, and I like that you just slap it on however you like it:)

You must be used to the UK weather by now, one minute sunshine and then raining. It can be a bit frustrating at times.

'Slap it on' describes it perfectly! 😁

Yeah, I'm used to the weather now. It's just that once you take a break spend some time in the tropics and come back to winter, it takes some getting used to 🙃

Hello friend, first of all, the place looks very comfortable and pleasant, which would be perfect to have a great time and I liked the gardens, they are very well preserved. On the other hand, I would also put the jam first and then the other, since in the end one will eat everything and I will not be aware of that, also the choice of coffee is very good and in this way achieve a very good and rich combination for the chance. I hope you enjoyed.

Nice atmosphere around the place too.

Oh my God, what beautiful landscapes, I loved them.
I would be happy to walk into a coffee shop like that, and taste so many delicious things along with my cappuccino.
I would steal this phrase, hahaha, to forget about any possible diet for a while.

I definitely don’t believe in diets. Everything in moderation is ok. The problem I have, is that I'm no good at the moderation part. 😁

Yes, that's the problem, who can have moderation with so many delicious things, hahahaha.
