Hi, how are you all? Taking advantage of a few breaks during the day, I wanted to share a song by Él Mató, a really beautiful one, easy to remember and learn, and perhaps that's why it won me over so much: "El Magnetismo" (Magnetism).

It's the opening track of their acclaimed studio album "La Dinastía Scorpio" (The Scorpio Dynasty), released in 2012. This song not only kicks off the album, but also marks a new era for the band, serving as a hypnotic, minimalist introduction, imbued with a mysterious atmosphere that defines the tone of the entire album. Previously, the band, led by Santiago Motorizado, had just finished their famous trilogy of EPs (dedicated to the Nativity, Christmas, and the Apocalypse). "El Magnetismo" represented the group's musical maturity, moving away from the noise and extreme lo-fi of their earlier work to delve into a more polished, melancholic, and profound sound.

The song was recorded at Mantra Studios in Buenos Aires. The musicians who brought this track to life are the classic and most iconic lineup of the La Plata band, led by Santiago Motorizado. The song's instrumentation is a gradual build-up (a technique typical of space rock and shoegaze). It begins subtly with a steady bass line and floating synthesizers, gradually joined by guitars with heavy reverb and a restrained yet powerful drumbeat. Lyrically, the song is minimalist. It repeats phrases like "Who's going to take care of you?", a line that resonates like an anthem of resistance against the end of the world or personal collapse. "El Magnetismo" encapsulates Él Mató's philosophy: finding beauty and epic grandeur in nostalgia, decay, and everyday human relationships. Although it's a slow-paced song, the energy and tension it builds have often served as the perfect starting point to unleash the euphoria of their live shows.
