Popular beliefs of a town [ENG-ESP]
A town is known by its traditions, I want to tell you about the tradition of mine.
Since I was very young I grew up listening to the popular legend that tells that in 1736 the religious image of the Divina Pastora sent from Spain to Venezuela, due to a confusion it arrived to the wrong place and that is the town of Santa Rosa. It is said that when the natives tried to correct the mistake by trying to take out the box in which the image came, it was impossible to lift it and that is why they say that "the Divina Pastora decided to stay in the town".
Un pueblo se conoce por sus tradiciones, quiero contarles sobre la tradición del mío.
Desde muy pequeña crecí escuchando la leyenda popular que cuenta que en 1736 la imagen religiosa de la Divina Pastora enviada de España a Venezuela, por una confusión llega al lugar incorrecto y es el pueblo de Santa Rosa. Se dice que cuando los indígenas intentan enmendar el error tratando de sacar la caja en la que venía la imagen les fue imposible levantarla y por ello dicen que " la Divina Pastora decide quedarse en el pueblo".

The belief over the years of this miraculous image was growing, in the year 1855 Venezuelans were seriously ill with cholera and saw many of their relatives dying. At that time, it was believed that this epidemic would never end.
In such desperation, they decided to take the image of the Divina Pastora to walk the streets of the city of Barquisimeto, near the town of Santa Rosa. Some say that the priest Macario Yépez, sick with cholera, prayed to the image that the terrible pandemic would end and that he would be the last one to die from it. Many believe that it was so.

La creencia con los años de esta milagrosa imagen fue creciendo, en el año 1855 los venezolanos se encontraban gravemente enfermos de cólera y veían a morir a muchos de sus familiares. Por ese tiempo, se creía que esta epidemia no tendría fin.
Entre tanta desesperación, deciden sacar a la imagen de la Divina Pastora a recorrer las calles de la cuidad de Barquisimeto aledaña al pueblo de Santa Rosa. Algunos cuentan, que el sacerdote Macario Yépez enfermo de cólera pide en plegaria a la imagen que termine la terrible pandemia y ser él, el último que muera por ello. Muchos creen que así fue.
Therefore, beyond religion from that moment until now, year after year, locals and people from all over Venezuela, believers and non-believers come to accompany in a massive procession which has become a tradition of faith that has been the inspiration for countless artistic expressions, songs, paintings, murals, mosaics, monuments and sculptures.
Por ello, más allá de religión desde ese momento hasta ahora, año tras año, locales y personas de toda Venezuela, creyentes y no creyentes vienen a acompañar en una procesión multitudinaria la cual se ha vuelto una tradición de Fe que ha sido inspiración para innumerables expresiones artísticas cantos, pinturas, murales, mosaicos, monumentos y esculturas.
This tradition is part of the Venezuelan culture, that is why Venezuelans all over the world commemorate every January 14th the visit of the Divine Shepherdess, this year the 166th visit was celebrated, in an unprecedented tour in a special vehicle to transport the image with which it was able to travel 108 kilometers. It is worth mentioning that originally the run was 7 km long and was carried out with the image on the shoulders of some believers, but due to the COVID 19 pandemic, the run was carried out taking into account biosecurity measures.
Esta tradición es parte de la cultura Venezolana, por ello venezolanos en todo el mundo conmemoran cada 14 de Enero la visita de la Divina Pastora, este año se celebró la visita 166, en un recorrido inédito en un vehículo especial para trasladar a la imágen con el que pudo recorrer 108 kilómetros. Cabe destacar, que originalmente el corrido es de 7km y se realizaba con la imagen en los hombros de algunos creyentes pero por motivos de pandemia de la COVID 19 se realizó el corrido tomando en cuenta medidas de bioseguridad

The source of all this story has been my own experience, I have grown up being part of this popular tradition, I have heard of multiple miracles and I have seen spectacular artistic expressions inspired by this Marian devotion.
In my 27 years I can tell you a lot about this fact that moves millions of people to celebrate this day. I hope you enjoy this story and get to know a little of this tradition that is celebrated every January 14th in Barquisimeto, capital of Lara State in Venezuela.
La fuente de todo este relato ha sido la vivencia propia, he crecido siendo parte de esta tradición popular he escuchando de multiples milagros y he visto espectaculales expresiones artísticas inspiradas por esta advocasión mariana.
En mis 27 años es mucho les puedo contar sobre este hecho que mueve a millones de personas a conmerar este día. Espero disfruten de este relato y puedan conocer un poco de esta tradición que es celebrada cada 14 de Enero en Barquisimeto capital del Estado Lara en Venezuela.
