Hoy fue un sábado de mucha aventura en la Ciudad de Maracaibo así que en varios posts les estaré contando todo lo que nos tocó pasar.
En este blog quiero compartirles mi experiencia visitando por primera vez la Basílica de la Virgen de Chiquinquirá o ''La Chinita''.
Cuando estaba mas pequeña viajaba mucho a Maracaibo y solía pasar por frente a la Basílica, pero como practicábamos otra religión nunca fue de mi interés entrar, ahora, que me interesa tanto el turismo y conocer nuevos lugares me pareció la oportunidad perfecta para conocer por dentro este lugar tan emblemático e importante para la cultura de mi Región.

Today was a very adventurous Saturday in the city of Maracaibo so in several posts I will be telling you everything we went through.
In this blog I want to share with you my experience visiting for the first time the Basilica of the Virgin of Chiquinquira or ''La Chinita''.
When I was younger I used to travel a lot to Maracaibo and I used to pass in front of the Basilica, but as we practiced another religion it was never of my interest to enter, now that I am so interested in tourism and knowing new places it seemed to me the perfect opportunity to know inside this place so emblematic and important for the culture of my region.
La Basílica por fuera es bastante imponente, en frente tiene una plaza bastante grande que por cuestiones de tiempo no pudimos visitar.
Antes de tomarnos fotos, descansamos bajo la sombra de un árbol porque sinceramente el calor era bastante fuerte.
Nos hidratamos, refrescamos nuestras cabezas y decidimos comenzar a recorrer el camino a la entrada.
La Basílica está rodeada por espacio donde los feligreses suelen esperar la bajada de la virgen o se reúnen a celebrar misas, con el sol tan fuerte parece interminable e imposible de recorrer.
The Basilica is quite imposing from the outside, in front of it there is a big square that we could not visit due to time constraints.
Before taking pictures, we rested under the shade of a tree because honestly the heat was quite strong.
We hydrated ourselves, cooled our heads and decided to start walking the road to the entrance.
The Basilica is surrounded by a huge space (similar to a parking lot but cars are not allowed in this space) that with the sun so strong seems endless.
Después de una larga caminata hacia la puerta de entrada, coloqué mi teléfono en modo silencio para no faltar el respeto con una notificación dentro del lugar, que para muchos, es sagrado.
Al entrar quedé impactada por la arquitectura del lugar, el techo es hermoso, las banquetas parecen de mármol, todo tiene un estilo neorromanico y es bastante hermosa.
Es enorme por dentro, tiene aire acondicionado así que aprovechamos para refrescarnos y poder respirar.
Comencé a tomar fotos del lugar discretamente pensando que quizás alguien podría molestarse o que este sería una ''falta de respeto'' al lugar, pero al seguir caminando me di cuenta que habían personas que estaban tranquilamente conversando entre ellas, otras también tomaban fotos y algunas al parecer solo entraban para disfrutar del aire acondicionado.
After a long walk to the entrance door, I put my phone on silent mode so as not to disrespect with a notification inside the place that for many is sacred.
Upon entering I was struck by the architecture of the place, the ceiling is beautiful, the sidewalks look like marble, everything has a neo-romantic style and is quite beautiful.
It is huge inside, it has air conditioning so we took the opportunity to cool off and breathe.
I started to take pictures of the place discreetly thinking that maybe someone might get upset or that this would be a ''disrespect'' to the place but as I continued walking I realized that there were people who were quietly talking to each other, others were also taking pictures and some apparently just came in to enjoy the air conditioning.
Dentro del la iglesia hay varios monumentos y cuadros de Jesucristo, otras vírgenes y personajes que no conozco.
Me gustan mucho las imágenes de cristales que suelen tener las iglesias en los ventanales. La luz suele entrar por esos cristales y el interior se ilumina de lindos colores.
Me senté en una baqueta para admirar con más calma cada detalle.
Vi que mi amiga Estefania subió a la parte donde está la tablita de la Virgen así que me animé y subí para verla de cerca ya que nunca la había visto.
Inside the church there are several monuments and pictures of Jesus Christ, other virgins and characters that I don't know.
I really like the crystal images that churches usually have in the windows. The light usually enters through those crystals and the interior is illuminated with beautiful colors.
I sat down on a stool to admire every detail more calmly.
I saw that my friend Estefania went up to the part where the little board of the Virgin is, so I went up to see it up close, since I had never seen it before.
Antes de subir al lugar donde esta la imagen de la Virgen hay un ''Santísimo Sacramento'' donde las personas se arrodillan a hacer sus rezos y oraciones.
Al lado de este Santísimo hay una imagen del Dr. Jose Gregorio Hernandez, un popular santo de nuestro país venerado por los milagros médicos que realiza. Debajo de este cuadro habían bastantes ramos florales.
Después de esperar un tiempo prudente por Estefania decidí subir a ver a la Virgen.
Before going up to the place where the image of the Virgin is, there is a ''Santísimo Sacramento'' where people kneel to make their prayers.
Next to this Santísimo is a picture of Dr. Jose Gregorio Hernandez, a popular saint of our country venerated for the medical miracles he performs. Below this picture there were many floral bouquets.
After waiting a prudent time for Estefania I decided to go up to see the Virgin.
Mientras subía las escaleras sentía un poco de nervios, aunque no soy creyente de Santos y Virgenes se lo que ''la Chinita'' representa para casi toda la población de mi región y la fe tan enorme que tienen la mayoría de Zulianos hacía esta imagen.
Me acerqué y de corazón pedí a Dios y a quién quisiera ayudarme que guiara cada uno de mis proyectos y me acercaran cada vez más a mis objetivos.
Tome varias fotos y me giré para ver la iglesia desde este punto.
As I climbed the stairs I felt a little nervous, although I am not a believer of Saints and Virgins I know what ''La Chinita'' represents for almost the entire population of my region and the enormous faith that most Zulians have towards this image.
I approached and from my heart I asked God and whoever wanted to help me to guide each of my projects and bring me closer to my goals.
I took several pictures and turned around to see the church from this point.
La historia de la Chinita es bastante interesante, pues cuentan que una sencilla señora que lavaba su ropa a orillas del Lago de Maracaibo encontró una tablita en el año 1749.
Esta señora tomó la tablita de madera porque pensó que le sería útil en su hogar para tapar una tinaja de agua que tenía en su entrada. Al día siguiente mientras hacía sus quehaceres la tablita comenzó a brillar mostrando la imagen de la Virgen y la señora comenzó a gritar ''¡MILAGRO! ¡MILAGRO!'' de esta reacción surgen muchas canciones, gaitas típicas de nuestra región. Obviamente la historia es un poco más larga y los milagros ocurridos después de esta aparición son incontables.
Creo que la fe puede mover montañas y si decidimos creer en algo, mientras no dañe a nuestro prójimo, nadie puede interferir en eso.
Esta visita fue bastante bonita y siempre es lindo conocer y familiarizarnos con la cultura del país donde vivimos, a fin de cuentas es lo que somos, los que nos representa e identifica.

The history of the Chinita is quite interesting, as it is said that a simple lady who was washing her clothes on the shores of Lake Maracaibo found a small board in the year 1749.
This lady took the wooden plank because she thought it would be useful in her home to cover a water jar she had at her entrance. The next day while she was doing her chores the little board began to shine showing the image of the Virgin and the lady began to shout ''MIRACLE! MIRACLE!'' from this reaction many songs and typical bagpipes of our region were born. Obviously the story is a little longer and the miracles that occurred after this apparition are countless.
I believe that faith can move mountains and if we decide to believe in something, as long as it does not harm our neighbor, no one can interfere with that.
This visit was quite nice and it is always nice to get to know and familiarize ourselves with the culture of the country where we live, at the end of the day it is what we are, what represents and identifies us.
