The Stork (Ciconiidae)

Dear Hiveans!

I would like to show you today on my blog a beautiful bird that I photographed. In the following picture you can see two so-called storks (Ciconiidae).

This kind of bird is found on pretty much every continent and is a relatively well known bird. There are 19 different species of storks and 6 different genera worldwide. A characteristic is clearly the size, the height ranges from 75 cm to 130 cm and the weight is up to four kilograms!

Other attributes are the long neck and the color black and white. The stork mainly eats worms, mice or insects, but this bird is considered omnivorous. On average storks are up to 8 years old, but there are also rare cases that are over 35 years old.

Each animal has a meaning in symbolism just like the stork! The stork is a symbol of new life and rebirth. From a mythological point of view, this bird stands for the connection of opposites and flowing transitions due to its black and white color.
