Five insects from the forest

Hello dear Hive Community! In one of the last days I went for a walk in the woods. On the forest path I took some pictures of different insects, which I would now like to share on my blog! I didn't know two insects from the pictures, but I was able to identify them and can share all the names with you.

In the first pictures you can see a beetle which is known as the spotted longhorn beetle, the scientific name is Rutpela maculata. This beetle is most widespread in central and southern Europe and grows to a size of around 20 mm. A characteristic feature is the combinations of two colors, yellow and black. This type of beetle feeds mainly on pollen, the larvae on wood.

Next I present to you images of a species of hoverfly called Sphaerophoria philanthus. This beautiful insect is also mainly distributed in Europe, hoverflies are often confused with wasps because they look very similar. A great feature is that this insect is very useful against vermin like aphids!

Now follows a very well known insect, the field bumblebee (Bombus pascuorum). You can see this insect collecting its food from a flower and the field bumblebee is often found in meadows, in forests or gardens. The active months of the insect are from March to November.

This insect is a beetle called the soldier beetle (Cantharis rustica). I have already described this beetle in more detail in another post. If you are interested, you can click here.

In the last picture you can see the so-called tobacco-coloured longhorn beetle, the scientific name of this beetle is Alosterna tabacicolor. The beetle can be found from May to August and the distribution area is mostly forests but also in parks. The body size is usually between 5 and 10 mm.

I hope you liked my post, I used my iPhone 12 to take these photos!
