Here you can see pictures of the Common bugle which is also known under the scientific name Ajuga reptans and originally comes from Europe, Africa and some parts of Asia. Although it is unfortunately becoming more and more unknown nowadays, it has been known for thousands of years and was revered by some cultures as a magical plant and used for ritual purposes and it was typical to use the plant as an incense or to use as an oracle plant and the aim of these rituals was often to get in touch with higher beings. Also in Norse mythology it can be found where it was associated with the thunderstorm god Thor and there used to be the assumption that if you pick the plant could expect bad weather like thunderstorms and Common bugle was also highly appreciated because of the healing properties and the effects include the soothing or the analgesic effect. It has been used in many ways against internal as well as external diseases and it is particularly popular to prepare a tea or tinctures from it and as always I would like to mention that in case of illness you should always ask your doctor or pharmacist of trust about the correct use as well as possible side effects! Most often they are found in damp meadows, roadsides or fields and it thrives optimally in locations that are in partial shade and it is considered very robust as well as easy to maintain and can be easily propagated. It is also an important source of food for insects and because of the ability to bloom early and for a long time, it is an important food source for various species of insects such as bumblebees, wild bees or caterpillars and is particularly recommended for anyone who wants to make the location ecologically valuable.
