Bertrandite Mineral
Good day dear Hive community, first of all I would like to wish you all a pleasant day and hope you are all well and your day has brought one or the other positive experience into your life! In this post, I would like to bring you a mineral a little closer and hope you can expand your knowledge a little.
Today I had the opportunity to photograph a specimen of a rather rarer mineral, which is also known as Bertrandite and belongs to the mineral class of germanates and silicates. Bertrandite was first named in the last third of the 19th century by the French mineralogist Augustin Alexis Damour (1808 - 1902) who had referred to his colleague Émile Bertrand (1844 - 1909) in the naming, who was a great mineral enthusiast and trader at the time and is considered one of the co-founders of the mineral society in France. The formation of Bertrandite can be traced back to volcanic activities and usually forms needle-shaped or prismatic crystals which also sometimes tend to the formation of twins and another property is that it is a pyroelectric mineral and if you want to learn more about it, you will find a contribution from me here. From the chemical composition it contains a high content of Beryl and therefore it is also of great interest as an ore for extraction and worldwide it has already been found at about 500 different locations and among the most important places of discovery are England, Spain, Brazil or Norway.
Thank you very much for stopping by and I hope you could learn something new about minerals! I captured these pictures with my Camera Sony Alpha 6000 plus 55-210 mm lens!
Nice sample!
