Beautiful Sweet William (Dianthus barbatus)

Hey everyone! Today I would like to show you a plant of the carnation family (Caryophyllaceae). The name is Sweet William or scientifically Dianthus barbatus and this beautiful plant originally comes from the mountains of southern Europe.

Since the Middle Ages, Dianthus barbatus has been cultivated in more and more different locations and can often be found in temperate climates. The best location for growth is when the place is sunny and dry and the air can circulate well, a calcareous soil is also optimal.

Sweet William do not get very large and the average size is between 20 cm and 60 cm. The flowering period is from May to July and this plant is available in different colors such as green, white, red or purple, often the flowers can also be two-colored.
