Beautiful Rose: The Peony

Hey everyone! In this article I would like to present you a beautiful rose which is growing in our garden. In my last post I already showed you another type of rose, if you want to see the post, click here.

The rose you see in the following pictures is called Peony (Paeonia), and there are 33 different species in this genus.

The plant starts flowering in may and they grow between 50 to 100 cm high. Peonies are very adaptable when it comes to the location! However, it is optimal if they grow on loamy or moist soil, the place should be sunny to semi-shady.

The variety of different colors leaves almost nothing to be desired, there are peonies in white, pink, red or yellow!

From a mythological point of view, the scientific name Paeonia derives from Paian, who in Greek mythology was a healing god and the doctor of the Greek gods. It is said that this plant can be used for healing benefits, like healing wounds.

In traditional Chinese medicine, the rose is also used to treat some diseases. The effect is anti-inflammatory and painkilling and is also suitable for headaches and other diseases.

Paeonia have a long tradition in natural medicine. However, the user should be careful when using it himself, as this plant is slightly poisonous and is only suitable as medicine in the correct application form!
