Freewrite - “Hide in the Wardrobe”

“I know you're in there! Come out and face me like a man!”

No, thank you! Jason thought as he ran semi clothed, through the connecting door from one bedroom to the next. If being a 'real man' meant meeting his lover's husband face to face to bear the consequences of their affair...well, he was fine with being something else. Cowards had a much higher chance of surviving long enough to pass on their genes to the next generation anyway.

The heavy booted footsteps were getting closer though. He looked around frantically but there were just so few places to hide. And none through which he could escape. He opened the wardrobe door out of desperation and slammed it shut behind himself, plunging the tiny space into darkness. And in that darkness he tripped over something he could not see and tumbled much further in than the dimensions of that wardrobe should have allowed.

What the hell…?

He staggered to his feet and looked in all directions. The wardrobe, the room and the rest of the house were all gone and he was outdoors in a place that he could not recognize. The season was wrong, the trees were wrong and the individual staring at him in shock was like no one he had ever seen before.

Okay, perhaps the piece of furniture in the image might be a bit small for an adult male to squeeze into but what if he were a contortionist? Besides, I liked that picture better than the others I found on pixabay 🤷🏾‍♀️.
