Market Friday : My Visit To The famous T-junction Market in Okobodi, ITU Local Government Area of Akwa Ibonm State, Nigeria.
Hi friends
its so good to be back after a very long time of not engaging the #market Friday community, i have actually been busy and due to so much engagement, not being able to visit markets and shopping centers personally except the once my friends do for me.
Today i will be sharing about my visit to the famous okobodi market in one of the longest Local Government in the then Cross Rivers state, now known as Akwa Ibom state.
About The Market
The market is known and called Okobodi T-Junction market, it is located just at the middle of the okobodi community, its a local market but you can find absolutely any thing and everything you are in need off, the market features mostly agricultural product as seen on the photo clips, the market is majorly sold Four (4) days in a week for people who come in to buy goods on whole sale, but then the community make sales in the market everyday so the market is an everyday market but its open for visitors to come buy and as well sale in fours days of the the week.
Food Items produced in the community
- Oyster
- periwinkles
- Water yam
- Coco yam
- Sweet yam
- Red pepper
- vegetables
- plantain
- Banana
- fresh fish
- Dry fish
- Garry, etc
We also do have many other food items that are brought to the market by visitors from other locations, stuff like,
- potatoes
- Rice
- Beans
- other like fabrics, etc.
One of the things that really got my interest to visit the market was my love for oysters, i needed to know the market for myself and to get as much as i can get, also to get in contact with people that are doing the oyster fetching proper.
Oyster is the common name for a number of different families of salt-water bivalve molluscs that live in marine or brackish habitats. In some species, the valves are highly calcified, and many are somewhat irregular in shape. Many, but not all oysters are in the superfamily Ostreoidea
You can have it in different sizes and in quantities, its affordable and rich,
The unit of it as arranged there is very affordable, you can have it at about $1 which is about #500 naira
This market is rich, this is were farmers do go to vegetable seeds like the one you are seeing here,
This is pumpkin seed, available both in retail and whole sale, you can get it as much as you want,
The market is situated just by the road side, the is a good network road to the market, the road to the market is about 7km from the major road, there are shuttle busses from Uyo monopolies too and fro the market. there are mini buses, taxies, tricycle and motorbikes, to go through the market.
Beloved I will have to confess that dry fish from this community can make you see the future vey clear and better, especially with the akwa Ibom native soup, like Afia efere, efere affang, Edikanikon. etc
My trip to the T-junction market was in deed a successful one, I have made up my mind to take my time out to many of our local market so as to feed the #market Friday with the amazing places around my locality and more.
Finally i want to say a big thank you to the community admin for granting us the opportunity to share our market structure, experience and what can be available. once again thanks for having having me @ekotmordemy, stay safe and remain blessed.
I has been a while. I love to engage, but, if I don't post, there would be no #MarketFriday! :) I try to have a little balance between commenting, engaging and posting. It is good to have your hand in them, but, everyone has to find what works for them. If we all engaged, who would post? :)
Your market was wonderful, I loved walking through it with you. So much variety and for a sit-down market, it was remarkably clean and sanitary looking. That is not so with all of them, neither here in the States or anywhere.
The food was good looking and there were lots of people. Just the way a market should be! Thank you for taking the time to post!
#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through by their markets, especially local markets and farmers markets and eventually branching out and evolving over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but, it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact of what is these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.
Fridays are all about the #MarketFriday Challenge! Looking to take part in it? Here is how:
