Greetings to you,
So glad to be back to my home, as i engage on our homeschooling diary, The #homeedders communities has so been a blessing, reading from across the globe different approaches to make learning for our kids fun and as well meaningful.

Today t will be sharing on the area am trying to develop my girls capacity on mathematics and other technical subject. My girl, like many other girls do not flow with mathematic but she is interested in knowing how to get through it without faulting the laid down principle.

Its what i call the Factor game series, its very okay for grade four kids but you can as well make it very simple for more younger grades if found interesting.

The Factor Game is a mathematics related game, for pupils to practically identify properly factors of numbers, thereby developing their capacity on multiplication. The game can be played in groups of two and with more than one person, but for the sake of this exercise we are using team A and Team B, the team A is my girl and the team B is me.

Materials Needed

  • plain sheet of paper
  • pen
  • marker
  • Ruler

I had carefully looked at the way she was handling her math take home work, so i knew that she had issues with multiplication, and so the need for this game became very crucial. I had to pick out numbers that will will simple to get the factors and also those that will need some level of technicality so as to develop the capacity for scientific analysis.

How to play the game.

  • Select the numbers that will be used for the exercise and write them out.

I picked the numbers 30, 40 and 60 and Wrote the numbers 1-30, 1-40,1-60 as shown on the sheet of papers. i did not allow the child to see the sheet of paper, until the moment the exercise will start.

Round One

Team B

The first player which is team B, I start by using the marker to circle out the number [30], whose factors are needed and gave it to my girl to look at the list of numbers and select all the possible factors of the number that I team B selected.

The rule is that all the factors that the child picks will be added on her score sheet and marks will be given her, if she misses any factor, the other team will pick it up and score them selves, that will continue for each round until the whole exercise is over.

I have to do this first with them them i will by next week allow a few of them to play the game by themselves.

I started with [30], she has a different color of marker, from mine so that you can see the factors given by me and the once she gives.

when we finished that round, she did not get all the factor, she was able to get the following factors: 1,2,3,5 and 6, while i completed the remaining factors, 10 and 15.

TeamA

1 +2 +3 +5 +6 = 17

TeamB

10 +15 = 25

The difference there was about 8, she told me that she will not miss it again, i told her that we will see it in the next round.

Round Two

I picked another number [40] for the second round, as you can see in the pictures bellow, so you can see below the factors of the numbers that she was able to get and that was 1,2,4,10, and 20.
i also was able to see that two other factors were remaining and that was 5 and 8.

Team A

1 +2 +4 +10 +20 = 37

Team B

5 +8 = 13

At the end of the second round, you can see how well she had improved, she was able to get about 24 point different but she still missed a few, so i told her that will will do another one and she was more serious than ever.

Round Three

The last round was with number [60], i knew that [60] has more factors then the other two, here we go. She was able to get, 1,2,3,6,10,15,20 and 30. while the remaining was 4,5 and 12.

This indeed was very instrumental to the development of my girls mathematical skills, she was so excited and not quiet long her friends came around so she told them who she won the factor game and her friends decided to join us in the next homeschool section by Wednesday.
This is the comprehensive score sheet of the todays factor development game, i hope you will enjoy the process and as well have an effective result.

the excitement on the faces is something we can not explain but am glad that my long time dream to run a homeschool project is finally coming into manifestation, i had a number that i was looking for to start a fresh section and now we have got even more than the number we anticipated for.

This is my people, and we will be starting our project as soon as possible
