Isale Eko : City of dreams and demons Ep 4

Nana’s hands shook as she put down the phone, she couldn’t believe what she had just heard. Tunde!!! Shot?! Almost fatally?!! Just a few weeks after surviving a beating from J breeze and his thugs?! No way.
They had spoken about this nonsense!!! She had sorted out J breeze and Tunde had promised that he was done with the scams and nonsense.
What had that idiot gotten himself into this time she wondered scolding herself immediately for even caring this much. As she grabbed her keys and headed to her car she told herself this would be the last time she got involved in these shenanigans enough was enough.

Two weeks before that phone call Baba Dee had received a message from one of his parties most respected men, a Don in the eastern side of the country, his son had relocated to Lagos and the man wasn’t happy with it so he had to make sure the boy went back home…Easy. He started by finding out which hotel the boy had checked into, apparently he had lost some money and personal property on his first night in Lagos, this would make Dees job a lot easier. He watched Azikiwe from a distance and when he saw him with Tunde it was a wonderful surprise, Tunde owed him big time, he was a smart boy but he had a habit of getting in trouble and Dee had stepped in more than once to bail him out. The day after he summoned Tunde to his home.
“You know say you dey owe me plenty money, and e no get where you go hide for this Lagos wey I no go find you” he started with a smile on his face. “Agba I know, Na why as you call me I come without hesitation baba…things haven’t been going my way, me and my babe just dey manage. Even money to package run things no dey, no vex Oga mi I go pay you”. Tunde responded as humbly as possible, he had known Dee for a very long time so he knew he didn’t actually need the money, he just hoped he could give whatever he wanted this time.

“What if I tell you I have a way for you to help me out and clear your debt as well, you know how much you owe me…financially and otherwise, we would be even if you can do this one last thing for me”. Dee said taking a long drag of his cigarette for added effect, he loved action movies and he liked to think of himself as The Godfather of Isale Eko, in many ways he was. between his political affiliations and his street ties and credibility, he was a name to reckon with as far as Lagos island was concerned.
“I saw you with Chief Obi’s only son at signature yesterday, how do you know the boy?” Dee asked with a look on his face that told Tunde he didn’t want to hear a lie.
“ I met him on social media boss, he said he needed a side plug to the music scene here and I help am do one or two other things collect small money” Tunde replied hoping that his dealings with Azikiwe didn’t cause him any more trouble, it was becoming hard to keep track of everyone he was in trouble with.
“So na music carry am come Lagos?! With everything his father owns back home? Which kind Mumu pikin be that…Anyways we are sending him home” Dee said, making sure to properly emphasize on the “WE” part of the statement.
“Boss you know say na scam I be, I no sabi kill person. Zik is a grown man and he is hell bent on staying here and pursuing this music thing, I’m not sure there’s anything you can say or do to convince him and send him away from Lagos” Tunde said with obvious relief, he knew Baba Dee wouldn’t hurt Chief Obi’s son so whatever he had to do would be light work.
“I don’t know how you’re going to do it, but I’d you don’t want me to make Lagos so hot that YOU have to leave, find a way to get that boy out of Lagos, frustrate him, I don’t care how you do it” Dee said with enough base in his voice to let Tunde know he wasn’t joking.

Tunde left the house feeling generally exhausted with life and the life he chose, it shouldn’t be so hard to make a living and enjoy life in this bloody city!!! Maybe he should have paid more attention in School.

He had just gotten back on Zik’s good side and had actually been looking forward to building something legitimate with him, now he had to undo all of that and send his meal ticket home…bad market.
