No there is a data property pointing to ipfs (decentralized storage) that includes media assets, metadata, and transaction data.

Yes, the pictures are typically stored on a centralized way. Even IPFS it's not perfect, BUT...

No one cares where is the picture. What matters is the actual NFT. As in the non-fungible token, with the ID. If you have it, you have access to all the features built for the punks, or the exclusive communities, etc... Today Ethereum wallets containing crypto punks are receiving airdrops from new projects as they try to get some big users to use the project.

For example, BOTTO is an interesting NFT project, with art generated by an AI and sold on auction each week. They airdropped a big percentage of the initial supply to owners of some NFT collections, such as crypto punks.

What matters is the NFT. The rest is just design, to make you fomo on dumb jpegs.
