Wildwood Walk
I'm not doing too well. 2 weeks ago, I was in a terrible electric scooter accident. I was traveling home from my night job, going almost 20 MPH, when it came to a complete stop and threw me straight down into the road. I didn't roll. I didn't tumble. I didn't slide. I collided with the street straight down like I hit a wall. It was the worst sound I ever heard in my life when my face and my right elbow hit the road. I'm banged up in several spots. My lower body didn't even have a scratch. The lowest road rash injury was on my waist.
I just paid $1000 for my Segway Ninebot Max less than 2 weeks before the accident. I didn't see any potholes. I'm more inclined to believe it made some kind of emergency stop, but I really don't know for sure what happened. The stock light is way too dim, and I was going to stop at the local bike stop and get a good light the next day, but that didn't happen yet.
I got back on the scooter a minute later, and I rode a few miles, until I could no longer grip the throttle. I then walked a couple more miles, until I decided to summon an UBER. The driver took my scooter home, and he insisted that I go to the hospital. I just wanted to go to sleep and see how I felt in the morning, but the driver talked me into going to the emergency room. I screamed so loud every time they moved my elbow. I declined pain medicine at first, but I finally accepted morphine and a nap. I've declined all prescriptions. I'm not really in much pain, but terrible discomfort. My whole body feels twisted now.
I went to an orthopedic a week later. He said nothing is broken, but my elbow might be fractured or something, but there's no point in figuring out if or where, because the treatment is the same whether it's broken or not.
A couple days later, I started to be able to move my right arm again. Then I got a terrible hernia, and I'm having trouble with my bowels. I'm going downtown tomorrow morning to a large university hospital. I was warned about emergency hernia surgeries gone bad, so I want to go to a hospital where the right surgeon is most likely to be available.
I was working 3 blue collar jobs prior to the injury. I was working 5-7 day shifts landscaping in the hot sun, and 5 nights in a busy kitchen, where it's even hotter. That's why I haven't posted on Hive for a while. I always manually curate every day, but I lost my memory card and camera battery the last time I moved, and I just haven't had any time to do anything at all. I ordered a battery and a card. The shipment tracker says it's been delivered to my town, but shipping is delayed. I'm going to prioritize posting here regularly again for now on.
Anyhow, please enjoy my random series of photos that I took last summer in Wildwood, North Wildwood, and Wildwood Crest, New Jersey.
So sorry to hear of your accident and all the pain you have had to deal with
Sounds like the segway had an issue it shouldn't stop and throw you off like that, have you reported it to their customer support?
Wishing you a quick and full recovery
Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)
