Greetings anime friends. This time we are going to review the anime Masamune Kun no Revenge. The series is about a boy by the name of Masamune Makabe (Natsuki Hanae), who as a child was constantly bullied for being fat, and because of this past trauma, he worked diligently for years to get rid of his fat and past identity. So much work ends up making him one of the best looking and most popular boys in his high school. He later discovers that a girl named Aki Adagaki (Ayaka Ōhashi) also goes to high school. What's the scoop with her? Well, it turns out that when our protagonist was a boy he liked this girl, but she broke his heart. So he gets the brilliant idea to take revenge on her, making her fall in love with him and breaking her heart the same way she broke his. And considering that this is a harem romantic comedy (ROMCOM + HAREM), I think we can all guess how this is all going to end.

Saludos amigos del anime. En esta ocasión vamos a revisar el anime Masamune Kun no Revenge. La serie trata sobre un chico con el nombre de Masamune Makabe (Natsuki Hanae), que cuando era niño fue constantemente intimidado por ser gordo, y debido a este trauma pasado, trabajó diligentemente durante años para deshacerse de su grasa y la identidad del pasado. Tanto trabajo termina convirtiéndolo en uno de los chicos más guapos y más populares en su escuela secundaria. Más tarde descubre que una chica llamada Aki Adagaki (Ayaka Ōhashi), también va al instituto. ¿Cuál es la primicia con ella? The fact that the story has a great setup is undeniable. A guy who gets bullied as a kid for being fat, gets in shape and decides to get revenge on the girl he thinks hurt him in the past. The comic possibilities are endless. And that's exactly what happens in the first six episodes. Really solid comedic moments where Masamune tries to get Aki's attention and romance her while still being cool. Sometimes it works, but sometimes it backfires on him. And I loved the interactions between the characters. It was hilarious. And some of Masamune's reactions made me die laughing. One of my favorite moments in the whole series is when he confronts Aki and says something to push her away and then runs off into the sunset with a phone next to his ear saying, "Come on, master!". That moment was hilarious. It was priceless.

Un chico al que acosan de pequeño por ser gordo, se pone en forma y decide vengarse de la chica que piensa que le hizo daño en el pasado. Las posibilidades cómicas son infinitas. Y eso es exactamente lo que ocurre en los seis primeros episodios. Momentos cómicos realmente sólidos en los que Masamune intenta llamar la atención de Aki y enamorarla sin dejar de ser guay. A veces funciona, pero otras le salen el tiro por la culata. Y me encantaron las interacciones entre los personajes. Fue divertidísimo. Y algunas de las reacciones de Masamune me hicieron morir de risa. Uno de mis momentos favoritos de toda la serie es cuando se enfrenta a Aki y le dice algo para apartarla y luego sale corriendo hacia el atardecer con un teléfono junto a la oreja diciendo: "¡Vamos, maestro! Ese momento fue muy gracioso. No tenía precio.

There were also a handful of romantic scenes that, as is customary in the ROMCOM genre, made their presence felt. The main characters on many occasions are shown to be very sweet and adorable. Especially the first time Aki and Masamune get close to each other. Also within the cast there are a couple of fun, wacky and memorable characters scattered throughout the anime that I really enjoyed and left a lasting impression on me.

My favorite and possibly the best girl in the anime was Yoshino Koiwai (InoriMinase), Aki's slave. What? That's exactly what she is, and she's forced to serve Aragaki's every whim with no questions asked and no pay! What does that sound like to you? Sounds like a slave to me, and apparently her family has been serving Aki's family for years. That's crazy, I think they just accept it, but hey, you know that's how the world of Masamune Kunno Revenge is. I can accept it, and I'm glad we got this kind of character, because he was hilarious. I loved his cold, unfeeling nature and his stoic expressionlessness.

The animation and character design are impressive. The characters are drawn in a detailed and expressive style, which gives them a great deal of personality and charisma. Both the series and the manga is fun, interesting and has a certain charm that makes it impossible to despise. But I don't totally agree with the characters' actions throughout the anime and their plan for revenge in general. Especially after watching its first season finale, which has a bit of dramatic irony in which we learn the truth about feelings and the past, about which Masamune's character has no clue. This initially seemed pretty cool to me and could have worked on a comedic level if the execution had been handled properly. The problem is that the execution wasn't handled properly and doesn't help Masamune. He's painted as a self-centered, oblivious jerk.

It also doesn't help that the character is so narcissistic and arrogant throughout the anime and doesn't show much empathy for other characters. And I think one of the main factors responsible for this lack of sympathy and investment in revenge is that very little light is shed on Masamune's past and his relationship with Arigaki all those years ago. And sure, we are given a few small glimpses into his past here and there, but not enough to paint the full picture. It's very hard to surmise on the narrative of a story when there are so many pages missing. And yes, before anyone says it, I understand that they did this intentionally to hide the truth of their relationship, which isn't hard to assume if you've watched any romantic anime these days.

But perhaps, highlighting more parts of their past would give us more clarity, help the audience to understand more, to see the perspective of both characters. Another problem I found was with Neko Fujinomiya's (Suzuko Mimori) character. It's not that I dislike her. He's tailor-made to be as likable, innocent and lovable as possible. But I don't like the kind of character she is. You know how she is. The kind of sweet, good-natured, innocent, pretty, fragile girl who falls in love with the main character for her reasons, and has a mysterious illness that afflicts her. I'm getting more and more fed up with these types of characters. They are too good to be true and lack any kind of dimension.

There's also the fact that as one of Masamune's love interests, Tae Futaba (Azusa Tadokoro), didn't do well at all. He had potential to be a great love interest, captivating and sympathetic to Masamune, and he actually did something unique by confessing his feelings early on. But the character is relegated to a mere supporting character. He appears very little in the #anime, barely spending any time with Masamune and most of the time only appearing in comedic moments. It's a shame, because I thought this character could have been something worthwhile. She should have had a much bigger role in this #anime, but we barely see her. We only see Masamune spending time with Aragaki, his teacher, and Neko.

Overall, although I found a couple of things I liked, Masamune couldn't have known that #Revenge is a run-of-the-mill romantic comedy. It follows it beat for beat. It doesn't try anything new, it doesn't try anything different. It had the potential to be something unique, something different, but it decided not to be. You know, I wouldn't tell you to go out of your way to watch Masamune couldn't know revenge. There are plenty of other romantic comedies that I would rather suggest to you, but if you're interested in seeing it, I'm not going to stop you from seeing it. I say go ahead, if you really want to see it, check it out for yourself. Be careful though, you don't really gain anything in the end, nor do you make any real progress with the characters or the plot.

En general, aunque encontré un par de cosas que me gustaron, Masamune no podía saber que la venganza es una comedia romántica al uso. La sigue compás a compás. No intenta nada nuevo, no intenta nada diferente. Tenía el potencial para ser algo único, algo diferente, pero decidió no serlo.
