EDSMM Contests
Last week, the challenge was about managing risk in your savings and investing:
- One of the things that has been said about minimising risk is about knowing where you are investing and the governance or management of your savings or investments.
- Hive is governed by the witnesses, so the challenge was all about witnesses. Do you vote for witnesses - yes or no and why? How do you choose who to vote for? What do you think about the idea of decentralised governance?
We had great responses and lots of questions - I strongly recommend having a look at the conversation on last week's post and raising any questions you have in the comments below.

The "easiest way" to vote for a witness is using Hive signer.

check the "active" tab to ensure you're voting for active witnesses. Then click the tick! Although not the most obvious system, light blue means you've approved, dark means you haven't!
Oh and when you reread the question, it asks for setting a proxy (DIY, don't use proxies!) but how to do this, easiest way I found was from hive wallet Just scroll to the bottom:

Some people want to use proxies because:
All fair and valid reasons for using a proxy, majority of "new" users will be auto set under a proxy depending on where they sign up. Having only really joined Hive about 3-4 months ago, I only recently looked into it properly myself and changed to manual voting.
Auto votes / proxy votes are beneficial, to an extent, I'd recommend everyone DYOR and find out more about the witnesses and what they bring to Hive! It's a great way to learn more and explore some of the awesome projects on Hive that sometimes get overlooked.
Is this correct? I wasn't aware this was the case.
It's either automatic or they ask when you sign up if you'd like to use a proxy (peaked definitely do, from memory) The other "easy" way is via the keychain wallet under the governance tab.
Okay, thank you for the info. I don't feel very comfortable about automatic proxy taking place and not too comfortable about people being asked as they sign up - I guess it would be to the DApp/frontend's advantage.
It could very well be hive keychain that offers it, there was definitely something that was set to proxy when I joined... and yes, plays to the advantage of the project, at the same time, the project is helping you get onboard with hive...at least it's "asked" and not forced, like the auto benefactor for "refs"
The auto-beneficiary rewards for referrals is the compensation to the on-boarder, that's pretty standard.
I checked the proxy issue with one of the witnesses. Here's their response:
"there was some discussions last week where hive keychain had been getting people to give it's proxy in a simple popup window, stoodkev, the owner already mentioned that will be removed in the new update
don't think any other apps/front-ends ask you to".

I'm deliberately not going to answer the questions, because others have already done a fine job and deserve the rewards, and I'd feel awful if I cribbed their answers and was lucky enough to win ! I want to get rich through my own efforts, not piggy-backing of others !
Question one was interesting whether @susie-saver made it to dolphin status That seems to depend on who you talk to. I was having the same problem a couple of months back as I got congrats from some folks then 1 month later a bunch then I made to 5200 then more at 5250 so that is the best answer I can come up with she was right or wrong.
Thank you HSBI share I can use as many as I can get.
As for saving I have been buying tokens all week as some folks are still selling great tokens for cheap and I just keep on stacking them.
Other than that a quiet week around here, just cold so staying inside and working Leo Dex
and making some great buys.

Going off of the information available at @hivebuzz, the @susie-saver account is still considered a Minnow! I'm not sure exactly how much HP or points you need to be considered a dolphin tho.
for the second question, @shanibeer forgot to mention that HPUD was this week!
and finally, to set a proxy voter for witnesses, you must first navigate to the user profile, like @eddie-earner or @susie-saver, then you must click on the interactions button underneath the follow button, make your way down to advanced interactions, and from there you can then choose to set them as a proxy voter!

I made no savings post this week as I was recovering from Covid......
As for susie-saver; I'm not even sure of the count to become dolphin status, I've heard so many different amounts, but she's definitely up there.
susue-saver forgot about HPUD but managed to slip in just in time.
And I know nothing about setting up a proxy and couldn't even tell you where to start.

I know I did this in my comment last time, but I can do it again here. The absolute easiest way is to use the Hive Keychain extension or app (I use the Android app), going to the Governance section, and then to the Proxy tab. A voting proxy may be set or removed from there.
