It really is not that hard to play the victim card- Dave Chapelle The Closer

I just finished watching his last Netflix special. I have to say I am shocked he didn't finish up a long time ago.

This particular one had pain writing all over it but it was crowded with laughter so much so that you end up not realizing that he is the victim.

Already the LGBTQ community is going after him again. If only they could put their feelings aside and hear what he had to say they would understand that anyone at any point in time can turn around and label themselves as victims.

I think a lot of the people who attack him really do not know how jokes work and that's why they are so upset.

Jokes are not meant to be offensive and they are not really about you, they're about the person saying those things. Jokes are not designed to be always true...Nor are they designed to hurt you, they are made for laughter.

Considering that his art achieves that I don't see why people can't understand.

In this stand up he talks about all the labels people have given him and he talks about how he sees himself as a feminist. He also brings to light for the first time the death of his transgender friend and how the person's death was closely linked to defending his comedy.

My advice if you're watching this and you're easily offended is to keep an open mind to the manner he presents his information.

I need to watch this. These days the last person you want to offend is the LGBTQ, I don’t know how they got so powerful 😂.

I haven't watched this yet but I'm looking forward to.

The space a stand-up comedian occupies is a sacred one and most do not seem to understand this. You're meant to be completely free, many will love or hate what you say and that is to be expected.

I can't remember ever being offended or outraged by any comedian. They're one of the few barometers of society left.

Yeah...its a beautiful art form. I wish people could get that... it's like a painting that has its interpretation.

Hey bro, finally watched it and I must say, comedy is truly an art like he said, people interpret it anyway they understood it. I really enjoyed it, but I wasn’t expecting the part about daphnie, I cried a little, in this life just be kind to everyone. You never know what they are going through.

Yeah....theses people are paid to make people laugh...Take Kevin Heart being labelled a misogynist for example...it doesn't make any sense cause he joked about his family life...its been his style of comedy to poke at family life from the start.

Finally watched it. I gotta say at one or two points I got a little uncomfortable but the thing about Dave is that he always brings it back to compassion…and he’s hilarious.

I think people should say what they believe and what they are inspired to say as long as they try their best to be compassionate.

I do agree though, he is playing the victim. I can’t tell if it’s a smart move to counter cancel culture, or if it’s just a tendency that most people possess to want to complain…though it must not feel good being demonized by others, whether you are trans or whether you are a celebrity with a controversial opinion.

What I came away feeling the most was “relationships like the one between Dave and his trans friend are important…all the complaining and pointing fingers is just noise”

people like Dave’s trans friend are really important

I really didn't sense this much. But I plan on rewatching it.

I feel like the LGBTQ community is all over the place with their feeling these days.

I was trying to watch Big mouth and I found the comedy a little exhausting. I didn't connect to it after leaving it for a while.

Comedy is not meant to entertain everyone and standup is the same way...it shouldn't mean you are intolerant.

I think Dave's goal is always to challenge himself and others to get better at talking about difficult topics. That's really my favorite part of comedy. I don't like it if the goal is to put people down, but I never get that feeling from him.

I don't know Big Mouth, I'll check it out, but if you don't like it, I might not either.

There are a bunch of LGBT people I respect, but I don't have much respect for people who conform to all the norms of their movement or community and can't accept anything outside of it. We always need a balance of individuality with collectivism.
